Going through some things, and seen this old tag on an outer box of a Rolex box. Brought back a great memory. My AD called me and told me there is a price increase coming in a day or two. The Daytona is going from $9200 to $9925, mind you it just went from $7900 to $9200 a few months before this. Well, the owner told my salesman if I wanted a Black Daytona, he would give it to me before the increase. They are no longer a Rolex AD, unfortunately. Sucks for me because I had a good relationship with my sales guy.

I've still got a business card from an A.D. w/ a 10% discount memo on it for a Batman from 4 years ago. (He had 2 of them in the display)

In the late 90's I paid $5,100 for a white dial Zenith Daytona. That would be $8,000 and some change today purely from an inflation stand point. Rolex really hiked their prices over the last 20 years, though you can easily argue they have also significantly improved during that time, especially in terms of bracelet construction.

I was offered a Daytona from my AD in 2005 for around $6,000 (I think), and we were driving to Florida, hit a dead zone on the mobile and he apparently thought I wasn't interested. I called him right back but it was gone...Just that fast!!!

In 2008 they were just as hard to find as today. When they were $7900, my grey guy was selling them for $10-12K. This same AD sold me a used Daytona Y series for $7K. They took it in on trade, from an important client, for a MG GV. This is when the GV just came out & were selling for double MSRP. I imagine the client wishes he never did that. My grey guy sold the Daytona for me, for $10K and he made a dollar or two. Ever since I been into the Daytona, they have sold way above MSRP. They never been slow movers since I been into them.

Haha, I was deflated but I have since had several Daytona’s and I still have two.

Do you still have the Zenith? I have always wanted one. Years ago I almost purchased one from another TRF member, Lawrenceb I believe. I regret not buying it til this day. He wanted $10.5K if I remember correctly. And it had box and papers.
