4100 vs. 14790?
Looking for a mid sized Royal Oak, and finding it difficult to find very much information about them, especially the 4100.
Does anybody know if there is a big difference in terms of reliability, durability, or service costs? I would like to wear it as a daily. I have a 6.5 inch wrist, think the 2mm difference between a 4100 and a 14790 would be significant? Here’s a picture of a 37 mm JLC reserve de Marche on my wrist, for reference. Interested to see some people respond to this. Just picked up a 4100 and its currently in transit to service. When I receive estimates, I will let you know service costs and timeframe to help answer that question.

Following this as well. I’ve been waiting for a 4100ba or similar model to come along at the right price and in the right condition for my wife. Would love to know what others are paying for these as well.

4100- somewhat thinner, more delicate due to thin bracelet and case
The watch almost wears like second skin as it sits really low on the wrist. Might have harder time to find extra links for this model. 14790- thicker and more substantial, this feel more "modern" akin to 15450 compared to 4100. The 2mm difference in diameter is noticeable more because of its height. In terms of diameter alone the watch doesnt look that bigger compared to 35mm ROs. I like the 14790 better in terms of construction and aesthetics because it doesn't feel like a vintage piece, but no way in hell I'm shelling out over 10K for one. |

Service update on my 4100ST...
1 month wait just for diagnostic workup. Instructed that the movement needs to be upgraded to a modern movement (I.E. $$$$). 10 week estimate for completion of servicing. I decided to go ahead with the movement replacement as I want this to be more of a daily wearer. |

In the end I decided on the 14790. The fragility of the 4100 was the deciding factor.
That being said, I find that even the 14790 is more of a luxury watch that is masquerading as a sports watch! I just find myself super aware of it on my wrist not to get it scratched, and also a bit paranoid whenever I have to pull out the crown to set the time/date on it. Overall though It’s a lovely piece and i really enjoy it. I really do prefer it to the modern APs. The watch is so thin! The monobloc case is super cool. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Looks Fantastic! Don't think you could have gone wrong with either choice.
