Adopted family member!
So, Rolex's offerings at Basel were about as exciting as a dry odourless fart, and after trying out the GMT-II, I figured that I wouldn't get one until it had a proper (read Triplock) crown.
Took a look at a Breitling Chrono Avenger M1 and decided that: a) I didn't want to get a quartz b) it didn't go with most of my wardrobe c) it took me too far away from the Rolex line So, what did I end up with? So, maybe she's not a through-and-through Rolex, but hey, with a Rolex case and crown, and a signed Valjoux 7750 movement, she's a member of the family!

Thanks, guys! You're right, JJ - this stands out in my collection more than a GMT-II would.

That's a very nice watch you got there! They always look good in the flesh too. On another note....paid the local AD a brief visit today, and he mentioned that the new GMT's bezels was quite something. the numerals are raised 18k, and the rest of it would be 'filled-in' enamel. If you saw them at Basel, did the buggers look any different?

The new GMT-II bezels are supposed to be ceramic and jump in 2½ jerks...i.e. when you turn the bezel in any direction, it does not jump in single click stops like the current GMT-II or Sub....but like say from 12 to 1 it needs just TWO jumps...i.e. the first jump will take it exactly HALF WAY between 12 and 1...and the next jump straight to 1. I know this for sure 'cause I actually tried it out with the solid gold one Mansor's showed me a couple of weeks ago. JJ

Congratulations on getting that great chronograph! Woo Hoo yeah, that's what I'm talking about!
As far as chronographs go I don't think you can do better for functionality and value for money. Some will insist that it isn't a "Rolex" but the fact is: (a) it has an oyster case manufactured by Rolex; (b) it has a Rolex crown and screw down pushers; (c) it has a Valjoux movement which has been modified to Rolex standards, and one should not overlook the fact that some of the most expensive Rolex Daytona's on the market have been fitted standard by Rolex with a Valjoux movement, (also modified to Rolex specifications). There is no denying that it is a very special and practical watch which is enhanced by the date feature. The Robustness of the case is enough to put your Sea-Dweller to shame (but no helium valve). The bezel on the Sea-Dweller is useful for a 1 hour parking meter, but for a 2+hour parking meter your "need" a chrono. So I think your model is 79170? Mine is 79180, here's a photo: I can feel a few Tudor Chrono beers coming on! |

Thanks, guys! I'm not sure about the strap because it exposes the unfinished surfaces of the case between the lugs. Can I get end pieces that cover it, or should I go for a bracelet?

Thanks, guys! Well, it's got a date function, and that already sets it ahead. I love the rotating bezel too - that way I get some multi-time-zone function.

I think that the endlinks will come with a new bracelet from Rolex. I believe the Tudor Oyster Bracelet is a couple of hundred dollars cheaper than the Rolex Oyster Bracelet, but the only difference is the logo on the clasp.
You can I would expect also just buy the endlinks from Rolex and use those with the leather strap, but you will have to modify the leather strap, which can be done (as I've seen it done before), but you have to cut out small sections of the strap to allow it to pass through the slot in the end links. |

Ah, that solves one mystery, Lol-x. I had seen some end links with straps and I was wondering is they were different from the bracelet's end links.
