GMT Master and Master II

Can some please tell me if there is any difference (if so, what) between the GMT Master and the GMT Master II, please?

I can see from the brochure that - GMT MASTER II - is showing on the dial, when was this model introduced?

Well the Gmt master didn't have independently adjustable fourth hour red hand whereas the GMTII have independently adjustable fourth hour red hand.
Also till my knowledge the GMT master had quickset date feature whereas the GMT II doesn't have quickset date feature.
Regarding the year of introduction GMT master was introduced in 1954 and GMT Master II was released in 1982~83.

mmmm...??
well - is there a problem??
I have a GMT-MASTER with serial number U - hence it ought to be a 1997/1998 watch.
However it states on the dial GMT-MASTER and not GMT-MASTER II. The latter was introduced in 1983 - why the difference?

The GMT master was only discontinued a couple of years ago, it did not cease production when the GMT II was introduced, it ran along side it until then.

So - from 1984 onwards - until 2004 - we have GMT-Master and GMT-MASTER II dials (and movements) being produced and sold next to each other.
Hence, was there a choice for the buyer (assuming they knew the difference)???
Looking now (doh) at a 1992 watch book - it states two calibers (3175 and 3185) and it says that the only difference is that the GMTM II shows three different time zones. Price was just below £1,000
