Thoughts on the 5170G White

Hello,

Just wanted to get some overall thoughts on the 5170G (particularly the White dial), thinking of moving a WG BLRO and just looking for some commentary on it.

I definitely wear my watches in a more casual setting so would swap the classic black strap for grey, tan, etc.

Thanks and Merry Christmas!

Nice watch. I owned one.

Great movement. The dial isn’t quite as balanced as it could be and ultimately that is why I sold it. The hands are a bit small for the dial and the emptiness in the 10 o’clock area of the outer scale are the things that bugged me. The 5170p dial has better balance but would have preferred without the diamonds.

Actually in the metal I think the 5170r is my favorite.

The replacement 5172 has a great dial but the watch is a bit bigger and the syringe hands don’t speak to me.

Imho, keep looking

It’s a very beautiful watch. I just purchased one. I believe it looks much nicer in person than via photos. Case back is beautiful. I bought it mainly because I am a medical doctor and always wanted a doctors watch - others do not like this feature due to numbers being smaller and hands as well. White gold breguet numerals very nice too. I also wanted a white chronograph as I had a black steel ceramic daytona - they look very nice together side by side. The market prices are pretty good now 50-65k. There is one for sale on Sotheby’s instant buy at this time or at least a few days ago. So, you can see I am partial to the watch but just a lot of features I like on it, so for me it is great watch.

The 5170G white dial is a classic Patek chrono with Breguer hour markers. Prices have been creeping up over the past few years. If you like it, go for it!

I've owned mine since the year Patek released the watch.

The 5170 is one of the most underrated references imo. You can't go wrong with it, the movement is ridiculous, insane wearability and being Patek's first in-house manual wind chronograph, I can't believe these are trading 30-40% below retail.

The 5170G is definitely one of the most outstanding Patek manual wound chronographs for the following reasons:
1- it house the first in house PP manual wound chronograph caliber
2- It maintains the DNA of the long list of manual wound chronographs (130, 530, 533, 1463 etc)
3- it has a very desirable Breguet numerals on the dial
4- it has a very unique pulsation dial

i have one and i love it, i say for sure go for it

I’ve been looking long and hard a a 5170R. Wish I had more cash. They are criminally underrated.

Thanks all, just tried a good friends 5170G black dial and I must say it’s a beauty. Candidly, I think I like the dial without the pulsation scale.

We were talking about a swap for my 3940P but I don’t think I can bring myself to do it!

I like black even though white may be the better package. Patek manual chronos in general a steal.

If the 3940p fits your wrist, I would not trade it away. It’s one of the most perfect watches ever produced, IMO. Sadly, after two tries with it, I had to make the difficult admission that it was just too small for my 7 3/8” wrist. I desperately still want the watch, but unless I go back to my high school weight, it won’t happen.
