TRF Fam - Share My Pain

I know many of you can relate...

I gave my wife a Rolex, didn't like the way she kept it. So, I gave my wife a custom leather jewelry valet so she could have a place to safely keep her watch when not worn, but she didn't quite get the memo.

she knows that rolex are quite tough. she is probably testing it's durability and will issue a video review in 6 months.

My wife beats the crap out of her watches, breaking the crystal on a Rado, misplacing the other ones, destroying a Seiko by just hitting it against everything, and she admits that she's "tough on watches." Yet she wants me to buy her a Rolex.

Glad I'm not alone.

On a positive note, she keeps her ring outside the valet. You're a lucky guy, at least she values it more than the others.

The operative part of the sentence is, you gave her a Rolex. It's her watch. She can do with it as she pleases.

not the point (which by the way is really for humor).

Of course it's her watch. If it wasn't hers it would be in my watch case, or in the safe securely stored.

Doesn't mean it's not painful to look at.

Not Rolex unfortunately. Never saw one of those. Had my wife's monogrammed and made from this company. Quality is very nice!

I have viewed a very similar setup at home. I just got in the habit of grabbing whatever watch she is not wearing and sticking it on the winder. At least it keeps the loose watches out of the jewelry bin...She has improved on leaving them by the winder in my office when she changes them, so it did help...Some LOL

Just think of it as a time capsule. Each and every ding or scratch signifies life being lived to the fullest. Who knows, in your golden years, you can look back and feel a sense of gratitude for the watch. All beat up, but still keeping -4/+6.

I, for one, would hate to have a shiny old Rolex in my deathbed.

While I whole heatedly agree with you, I just don't think it applies here. Traveling, playing with the baby at the park, wearing the watch to the beach or on vacation... yes, all apply to "life being lived to the fullest".

Tossing an $8k rolex into a deep pile of metal jewelry and other scratch hazard things, to sit there for days at a time, while other pieces move in and out of the pile, does not qualify in my book as "living", it's just a careless way to take care of things that are important to you.

It's like throwing your watch in a sock filled with coins, shaking it up and saying "hey, I'm just living life!"

Been there. Bought my wife a datejust 10 years ago and she has beaten the crap out of it. Whenever I comment about it, she says, "well you can't say I haven't gotten your money's worth out of it.

My wife treats her Rolex like a baby treats a diaper. At the end of the day I'm just happy she likes it and wears it regularly.

My wife keeps hers in a glasses case at night. After we spent two weeks trying to find what the funny noise was in the bedroom. Turns out the hard surfaces amplified the the watch sound. I have seen it on bathroom sink couple of times.

Agreed. She thinks of it as just a watch, those are the ones that have all the history.

o.p. gut wrenching picture you posted... pennies and iron chain next to Rolex... but as said above, you are not alone.

The other day we are walking in a crowded side walk towards our favorite restaurant, she is walking with my daughter, her left arm moving around and swinging within couple of inches of concrete wall and metal sign posts and what not, with her Daytona on that hand! This was her and this was me

I am slowly working on her to take better care of her stuff including watches.
