Sent watch to local watchmaker two times, both times with dust under the crystal
So I sent my Hulk to my local watchmaker here in Hong Kong for a service and it came back with dust on the rehaut. Took me a year to realise this and sent it back to them for a dust blow, free of charge.
When the watch came back, I was happy with it until the next day (which is today) when I found out another piece of dust landed on the dial. I called my local watchmaker and they said they could blow it off free of charge again. Question is, am I crazy for wanting them to do this? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I wanted them to do the service because I got a good deal on it, they’re reputable. And I wanted them to remove the dust cause they offered to do it for free. I was scared RSC would charge me

Rolex left dust under the crystal of my 14060M a few years ago. Just last week I sent back a BB58 due to dust under the crystal - this was bought new and never opened!
It can happen. |

This is a very important moment in life when you discover there is no such thing as "free". Your watchmaker competes on price, because he cannot compete on value/quality of his services. Why is that? Your photos show the answer.

Personally I think it's crazy to give them a third change to bugger it up, but it's your watch. I wouldn't have given them a second chance.

Dust on the dial can happen if you send your watch to RSC as well.

If it's convenient, free and the guy has a good reputation why wouldn't you allow him to do it?

I don’t know why many people are thinking this wouldn’t happen at an RSC (much less your average Rolex AD). This forum has countless examples of dust particles on brand new Rolex watches from the factory - arguably the cleanest environment. These watches are assembled by humans in the real world, which contains dust. Just have them open and clean it again and hope for the best. It’s not a big deal.

Easy for everyone here to be so dismissive of a local watchmaker, or RSC when the OP didn’t even notice the dust for a year.

After the first bit of dust you could not have stared much at the dial, as you stated it was 12 months before you noticed. And that very very very miniscule bit of dust will not harm your watch in any way, as the first bit you noticed after 12 months did not affect the function of your watch.

Scratches don’t bother me, dust inside the watch does. I don’t think dust will enter the watch once it’s closed no?

Same thing happened to me with my 16570 when I bought it new from the AD. My AD has a Rolex trained watch maker on staff and it was a simple fix. Came from the factory w dust under the dial - it happens! This is the reason I buy new from an AD. They are there for you should any issues arise after the sale.

Hi, if you are noticing the lint a long period after wearing the watch then you may not want to have the watch near liquids. It could possibly have an improper seal and therefore allowing airflow and the subsequent movement of the lint to come into view. Have the watch serviced at a Rolex service centre for piece of mind.

There is dust in the watch when new and there is dust in it after it is serviced. You can send it back (or to someone else) and you will get a watch back that has other dust in it that may or may not be more visible than what you currently see. You may also get a watch back that is cosmetically and/or functionally damaged.
This is up to you, but IMHO, this is not something I would fret over. It's the same kind of obsessive worrying involving things like freaking out over scratches or if a watch has been properly polished, where minor things that you practically need a scanning electron microscope to see results in so much stress that someone cannot just enjoy their lovely timepiece. |
