Power Reserve questions

I have two watches with a visible power reserve:

1. Panerai 233 - a manual wind watch with an 8 day power reserve

2. Grand Seiko SBGA 407 Skyflake - an automatic with a 3 day power reserve

On the Panerai, I tend to let the power reserve go to its lowest point before I wind it to its full power reserve. Should I wind it more often or is letting it run down okay?

I keep my Grand Seiko on a winder which sometimes maximizes the power reserve when I am not wearing it. Is there some sort of regulator that allows the watch to be fully wound from a power reserve perspective or am I hurting the watch?

Your fine, i have a PAM 8-day Table Clock, just wind it once a week and you're golden

Absolutely fine to let it wind down. However if you're a stickler for accuracy they usually keep the best time the first couple of days

I tend to wind my 8 day PAM on the 7th day or sometimes the 10th (it goes up to 10.5 days and I did not notice any loss of time during this out of spec run).

Thanks. I guess my real question is, for the GS, does it hurt the watch when the power reserve is full and on a winder (I travel a lot and the watch is on the winder to keep the calendar up to date)?

No, it doesn't. Most modern automatic watches have a clutch or other method to prevent over-winding.
