Trade Advice
Hi all, I recently acquired a minty DJ 41 on jubilee. My daily wear is a gold sub 16618 ln and I have owned several other Rolex models. I am interested in branching out from Rolex and since I have t really bonded with the DJ I am considering a trade.
The trade would be my 126300 for a BNIB Girard Perregaux Laureato Blue Dial 42 mm. Straight up trade from a trusted seller. So what do you guys think? I know at the end of the day it’s my decision but value opinions and thoughts. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I think the GP is a fine looking watch. And in a vacuum I prefer it. As with most deals when letting go of the Rolex, I’d be sure you know it’s a keeper. I’m guessing the residual is lower on the GP while the Rolex seems bulletproof on depreciation. And no, I’m not an investment buyer

I like the look of that GP a lot. I think that's a pretty reasonable straight up trade.

I’d do the trade. That Rolex has nothing on the GO except the label.

Did you try the GP on? If so thoughts on the feel compared to the DJ?

As a 40 year Rolex wearer, I'd much prefer the GP. IMO, discussion of "residual value, investment, etc." is horsepucky compared to knowing which watch you will enjoy more.
Get the watch that you will want to wear. |

If you haven’t bonded with it then I’d definitely consider the trade. Have you handled the GP? For 8k it’s a relative bargain but yea if you don’t bond with it either you’re gonna have a hard time selling. I was considering one but seemed redundant in my collection. There’s nothing particularly rare about the date just to pick one back up down the road too if you change your mind. GP is one of those brands that has a lot of respect but terrible resale. I remember when I was looking at MbF years ago they used GP for their movement.

GP is an objectively better watch.

Laureato is beautiful, especially in person, but for me I feel like the design is a little too close to a Royal Oak (with a Nautilus bracelet). I think some other blue watches with integrated dials are more distinctive, like the Alpine Eagle or Zenith Defy.

I like the GP but personally wouldn’t make this trade. If you dont wear the DJ then it’s certainly not a bad option. If possible I’d recommend trying on the GP in person first though to make sure it’s the right one for you.
Edit: just saw you made the trade. Disregard my thoughts. Enjoy the new watch and post pics! |
