Mirror Polish Finish on the Top Lugs?

I went to the Rolex website, and I realize the cool feature I noticed is the mirror finish. How would I be able to achieve this mirror finish on my DJ?

I've seen it done using a Cape Cod cloth - others have actually taken the bezel off and polished the case with more aggressive tools like a dremel.

The polished case is a great look, but it's usually accompanied by polished center links on the bracelet - are you ready to go that far?

I say do what you want, but some of the guys here will say leave it alone.

I think I will wind up telling you guys I screwed my watch up. I think I will leave my watch alone. Talking bezel press, TT it, and the mirror polish may be a wrong move and what is a dremel?

The mirror finish is on the sides and top lugs of the new Datejust and other Rolex models. My DJ has satin or high polish on the sides and brushed on the top lugs

Um... you mean from the side it looks like a mirror?
I think mine is like that and my old datejust was like more like satin finish.

Mikey,

We are talking about lugs, NOT bracelets. Look again, my friend. The top of my Sub and YM lugs are brushed finished....the sides are polished along with the case.

Leave it as original, polished once the centre links on a Oyster bracelet took exactly 4 hours to polish back to original state it was a scratch magnet

Uhh, JJ, the top of the YM's lugs look polished to me - compare it to the brushed surface on the SEL.

A dremel is a DANGEROUS thing... it is a hand tool which can uses a wide variety of tips from polishing, drilling, buffing to cutting.

And a cape cod or other polishing cloth will leave 'striation' marks behind. I don't think you can get an OEM mirror finish unless you have the correct tools, buffing wheels and rouge to make it all work.

I've seen people try to make their center links polished and it never turns out right.

LOL! Yes, I know, I did realise that afterwards. But you must also remember that the YM has been away from me for well over a month....awaiting sale at my AD.

Most watches today have the mirror polish over the entire case (LIke Pani). I know that OQ would look real good if the caseband was completely mirror. Then that piece would belong in a museum...

I am a firm beleiver of,if you want it that way,buy it that way.I hear guys saying they are going to this to their car and in reality it would have been less costly buying that version to start with and the resale would have been better with the original finish/equipment.

Having said that,if you are going to keep your watch for life and want a different finish you could polish it but slowly and carefully does the trick.

Remove the bezel, remove the bracelet.tape everything that is not going to be polished.Evenly smooth each lug with fine wet and dry (1000 or higher). Then buff with a rag using a good quality polishing paste like Autosol and finish with a cape cod cloth.

The secret is not to round your lugs so when you decide to change back,Rolex can refinish back to original.

Your watch,your descision.

Aaron

Thats awesome and exactly the result I want on my Datejust. Did you remove the bezel to polish? See, thats why I need a bezel press to do it myself instead of going across town

Thats a gorgeous watch, I need to find me one of those as I am not a fan of the new ones with the new style tudor bracelet.

Great classic, in some ways its the watch that the Daytona wishes it was

No, the bezel stayed on.

To make a long story short >>>
I wore this watch everyday for 5+ years. It needed to be cleaned up so at that time I thought I would try a Cape Cod cloth on it. I took to the lugs and the end result was nice.

If you notice I removed the date bubble and polished the bracelet too. I sold this watch a couple of months ago.
