5065a facelift

gents,

i have a 5065a-001 that i purchased new in 2000. it is in great condition. i am considering having the case/bezel cleaned up ie, polished and brushed by patek. to be honest i have mixed emotions about doing this as
i like the natural aging/patina but i also think it would be cool to restore it assuming patek could restore to a credible "new like" condition. anyone have experience with patek restoration? thanks.

I will catch some heat for this, but…I have a 5066a and I had it sent off in 2020 for servicing and a polish. mine looked terrible from 2004. I have no regrets though. I know many say that “Some scratches make it look worn and special”. However, too many can take its toll on the beauty of the piece. My 5066a was returned in mint condition from Patek service. Love it!

I would leave it..... Because you can be carefree and not worry about new scratches....

having never done it, i would say only do it if there are a plethora of superficial scratches.
that way you aren't removing too much meat, yet renewing that new look

I have a 5066a that I’ve also owned from new. I would never polish it. I wore it at my wedding, at the birth of my children. Like me, it is getting older, and we share our gnarled scars as the story of our lives together.

This! Carefree wearing is pretty valuable as well to be honest. Maybe a light light touch up if you really feel like a spring clean :)

You can always polish, you can never un-polish. The number of unpolished 5065s will never increase. Ask any collector of vintage Rolex sport watches what they'd rather own, original condition case with scratches or nice shiny polished case?
Sending a watch in to be polished is a venture into the unknown from which not all return unscathed.

Lovely watch and don't touch!

If you want a mint Aquanaut add a new 5167 rather than getting this one polished.

I have sent MANY watches into Patek for Restoration. They do come back AS NEW. I would not hesitate, if this is the look you are going for.

I am sure PP will do a great job on the watch. I would not do it as it looks great and has been with you since new. There is something about well lived in items and you have an iconic one. If you did get it done would you not just walk it back to where it is now, so what is the point. By the way, great watch.

I would leave it. Those are nice battle scars. You can always tidy it up in the future.
