Steve McQueen and the Man!!!!

Most collectors of vintage watches are well aware of Steve McQueen and the influence his name has with not only the watch collecting community but with car collectors. Another legend that car collectors are well aware is American racing icon Carroll Shelby who left his mark on the collector car community as the father of the Cobras and Shelby Mustangs.

Being a big fan of both McQueen and Shelby, I thought it would be nice to share a couple of photos of the icons together admiring one of Shelby's creations.

It is well known that McQueen enjoyed wearing his Rolex Submariner 5512 which is evidenced by many photos of him wearing it. (What is not well known, to my knowledge, is where the rumor started concerning his ownership of a Rolex 1655 Explorer II which has never been documented.)

Let's see any pics of watches, cars or memorabilia that you have regarding either McQueen, Shelby or 5512 Submariners that McQueen was known to have owned. To get things started, I've included a couple pics of my GMT 16750 and 2014 Shelby GT500 since my Submariner 5512 was sold years ago.

Nice! Here's my (former) GT350 Shelby (2018), and my 1973 5512 Submariner, my longest surviving vintage Rolex.

That's a nice 5512. SMQ would have been proud.

I sold my 5512 to Jacek years ago in PEX for a silver-dial Milgauss 1019. Sometimes I wonder if I regret it, but in fact there's no way you can regret buying a 1019.

The dearly departed (as is SMQ himself):

My dearly departed ‘67.
At the time, selling it seemed prudent.

Man, do I hate being prudent.

Awesome pics and thread subject JP ! I’m a fan of Shelby, vintage watches, and McQueen’s passion for cars.
I share his appreciation for the 5512, as well as his appreciation of Shelby and Porsche…
Currently have a ‘68 5512, and I’ve had a few Shelby vehicles….but none at the moment. Currently have a 70 911T….McQueen drove a 70 911S in the movie Le Mans, but personally owned a 69 911S, as I’ve read about in different articles.

Hi, this might be of interest to McQueen fans:-
Steve McQueen photographed at the 1964 ISDT in East Germany, he's sat on his Triumph 650 (278) watching the mechanic work on a factory AJS 500 (270) that I currently own!

I'm pretty sure McQueen wore his Hanhart 417ES throughout the 64 ISDT.
