What’s good Rolex for night & bedtime
Hi there TRFers,
As someone who started out late in Rolex, it is just now I am appreciating the purpose and function of these watches. (Blame it on this site ) I currently own a DJ 116234 WG Fluted Blue Roman. I like it. But I feel needed another Rolex that can be readable when the lights are out and legible enough to check the time through the wrist. A good excuse to get my next lume Rolex. Any thoughts and recommendation fellow TRFers? Thank you |

Not Rolex. I would go with the Richard Mille Erotic Tourbillon.

Rolex isn't known for the brightest lume. I would pick the model you like and not base your decision on lume.

Exactly- if you want a night watch for super lume, go for seiko. Within Rolex, the watches w the largest markers are going to be the brightest (sub, gmt2, yachtmaster) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

Rolex lume isn't the greatest. I just got a Seiko SLA017 and the lume is amazing.

If I think I'll need to know that time in the middle of the night (jetlagged for example), I'll wear a Tudor. None of my Rolexes (except my old 5513 with service luminova dial, which is pretty good) are that reliable at night, even with a charge.

Don't buy Rolex for the lume alone, you'll be disappointed

I usually sleep w a watch on or on the nightstand and my explorer II is bright enough to see the time all through the night. My explorer I is too, but not nearly as bright as the ExII

The lume on my Milgauss lasts the entire night .. keep in mind your lume will not look bright at first .. but once your pupils dilate in the darkness .. you should be able to see the lume on most quality watches. Even my Tag Aquaracer has lume that easily lasts all night ...

If it is lume you seek, any quartz will a backlight will do. If seeking an automatic, with good lume, consider a Ball watch. As I recall, they use micro tritium tubes that last a very long time. http://www.ballwatch.com/global/inde...ing&Itemid=101

If you don't want a Rolex then a super lume is the Panerai. My Pam or Omega PO is probably the longest and brightest I have ever used. Easily viewable all night long.
Accurate pic without a long shutter speed.

In the middle of the night your eyes will be filled with morning glory, legibility is your concern so get a big watch with a 44mm and above size like Panerai.

Of course...I had to shine my iPhone light on it for a couple of seconds for the picture to pic it up. Otherwise I still seem to make out the time when needed

Explorer II white dial. That would be a decent in the dark piece.

I wish Rolex would up their lume. It doesn't last through the night which sucks. For the price and the hype the like should be better.

If the watch is intended for bedtime use, you might consider a Timex Indiglo. With a touch of a button, its brightness easily outperforms Luminova and some folks even use them as a mini-flashlight to lead them towards the bathroom (in the event they have to go during the night).
You'll save money along the way as well. Buying another Rolex primarily for use as a sleeping watch seems ludicrous. Another option would be to purchase an illuminated clock for your nightstand. |

Hi guys, thank you for all your replies.
While a RM erotic watch would be a good bed time provocation , I have no gumption for this brand. I would prefer a Ulysse Nardin Erotica Hour Striker and only if I win the lottery. It is a very good reminder of one's marital duties. It promotes health I suppose Just went to Seiko today and they have no model of the Pospex here (don't laugh I live in the bottom of the world). Panerai is just too big for my wrist. Tudor Pelagos, yes as a cousin of Rolex, I have considered this brand but in the Black Bay Bronze. I have set my sights on Expy 2 Polar but waylaid by the earlier version. Nicer. Currently queued for the 1 year BLNR waiting lists. Can't wait. Then I saw a post by PoohAndPiglet - that's the Rolex I want with Arabic numbers! Good for mid-life eyes glazed over by too many red wines But then it's all out of production. Might get a used DJ II Rhodium Blue Arabic. If I can get it. Thanks everyone. |

Maybe one of these if telling the time at night is the main concern.

you need a big watch. this one functions nicely as a clock when you put it next to your bed as it can be positioned to sit upright. I can read it from across the room. |

Sub or Explorer 2.
Otherwise, Pam or Omega.

I use a quartz Traser - the one with the Tritium gas tubes.
Not as accurate as my 14060M but easier to read at 5am when the rain wakes me up.

Seiko is a great suggestion or wear a G-Shock 5600. Auto Elimination works. Light on wrist and you won't feel terrible when you scratch it during sleep.
