Should It Stay or Go?

I love this new Omega AT on rubber.

And when it came out, I jumped on it.

It was as the watch I’d been waiting for. If you have ever read any of my posts, you might know I love rubber straps.

However, shortly afterwards, I fell for a watch I thought I’d never actually pull the trigger on. In all fairness I don’t wear much of anything besides the Daytona.

But specifically with this AT, this seems too similar. If I’m consolidating a little it seems it should go. While I love it, I don’t ever see me wearing this instead of the Daytona.

What does the consensus say? Can these two coexist? Or rather should they?

It's a very handsome watch, Seth. I don't think it's too similar to the Daytona at all.

However...I would have to ask what else is in the collection before sending it away or not.

Tough one...it definitely has a place in your collection for sure, but if considering consolidating some, based on what you have its not a bad choice...Not sure I was much help...

OK. Well...I actually see it bumping up against the DJ more than the 509. But, as it's on rubber and you like that, then I think you should keep it.

At least until something else comes along that you like better.

Very nice Omega on the rubber strap. I'd love to be faced with your dilemma! If it were me and it wasn't getting much wrist time I'd probably get rid of it to get something else? Half the fun for me is hunting for something I like (and then once I get it the thrill is gone a little and I find myself in your position).

...in that case...I firmly believe when something just won’t get the wrist time..it’s time to consider moving it on!

I certainly don't think it's too similar to the Daytona, even with both being on rubber straps. I really like the new ATs and applaud Omega for giving customers options (bracelet, rubber, leather).

Looks like a fun watch to wear when you want something a little more "under the radar" than one of your many Rolex models!

That said, if it's simply not getting any wrist time then it's time to move it on.

I am not a "collector" and don't really have that mentality. Even if a watch is not that similar, and these don't seem that similar, if you would never choose to wear it because you like the Daytona better, why own it? Personally, there are very few watches I would ever choose to wear over my Daytona, so I don't see the point in owning them. But I don't have the "diversity/complexity" gene. I just like what I like.

It sounds like you are similar, so unless you just get pleasure from knowing this is in your watch box or safe, get rid of it.

That Daytona is my grail. Lucky.

That being said, I think the AT is expendable if you want something else. You have a great collection going as is, so I see no reason to hang onto it. It certainly wouldn't get any wrist time in my rotation (assuming I had the same watches as you).

cant argue with this logic.

just to be clear, I do realize they are different watches.

however, my thought process in terms of similarity is that if I am going to wear something for the same purpose type of thing, they are for a similar purpose.

these two essentially do the same exact thing.

so I am thinking that maybe you are right. I love it. but I won't pick it up and wear it over the Daytona. and there are others out there that I would, on occasion.

interestingly enough, I love the idea of two DJ's. one fluted one smooth. but again, to me I would be wearing them for different reasons. one sport, one dressy.

That’s a tough call Seth. It’s a really good looking watch. I’d hang on to it, things change. The honeymoon with my Daytona lasted a little over 30 years. Then one day started wearing different watches. Enjoy them!

I tried one of those on the other day. I really liked it. I'd keep it if I were you. Surprisingly, I liked it better in person than the SeaMaster 300. I tried one of those on too. Based on all the pictures and videos I saw on the Internet, I was sure I would like the Seamaster better, but it was the exact opposite. Of course, I could see why you like the Daytona better and always wear that. That watch is hard to beat. They're not even in the same category...

I would hang on to it for a little longer. It’s a great watch, I tried it on in the NJ OB and an AD a few months ago. Was going to be my next acquisition but got side tracked w a Speedy Tues. Thinks it fits in well to your collection and isn’t too similar to the Daytona.

I might have missed this in the earlier post, but how long have you had the Daytona? Once the "new" wears off, the other rubber strap might start getting some wrist time.

I think having 8 watches in rotation will be difficult. Give it a few months and see which models are getting the least amount of wrist time and revisit.

I think the new AT on the rubber strap is one of the most comfortable watches I've worn. That says a lot for the Oysterflex since you say you enjoy wearing the Daytona far more. It's really just up to you Seth....you're not missing much if you rid the AT with your current collection. I understand it's tough because sometimes you look @ your own collection and when taking a step back.....you scratch your head on why you have so many.....then you try to rid of em and realize how much you like them and are attached....it's really an internal struggle. Good luck whichever way you decide, great watches both of them and are worthy of keeping.

Well, it looks like the daytona is the sure winner and if that Omega is worn because you feel sorry or guilty, then it needs to go. When I try to start to justify a watch in the collection to stick around for the sake of that, its bye bye for me. The question though Seth is what would be next?? That's the fun part all over again.

I mean - they don’t compete. AT fills the fun upscale beater that qualifies as stealth mode, you wouldn’t bang on the 519 like that I assume. I know you didn’t ask but I’d sooner sell the last two on that excellent list. We need to through out the thinking that you wouldn’t pick it over the 519. We all have a top watch where we can say that but own multiple obvi. I’m waiting for that 519 and my AD “claims” has yet to receive a single Daytona on OF yet.

The only watch I have that I don’t wear much is my OP Date. It was a gift from my parents when I graduated university 30 years ago. I’m going to get it fixed up this year and wear it more often. My point is, regardless of what the watch is, if you don’t wear it you should move it along and get something else you’ll wear more often. That’s why I don’t really want any more than the 4 watches I have now. Good luck with your decision.
