Now for the New Members Second Question
My new Rolex will not be a daily wear piece, it will be worn in the evenings when I return from work, weekends and travel.
What watch winder do you recommend? Or is one needed? Looking on the internet the watch winder suppliers seem to be part of a cottage industry. I assume the demand is not that great, but I see you can spend from $75 to $7500.... Any suggestions or recommendations? My long wearing watch, over 12 years old, not one sigle problem is a Seiko automatic divers. This has been one durable watch, I have put it through the mill and it runs great. The new winder may be used for the Seiko also, so a double winder may be in order. Thanks, Richard |

Hi Richard,
If it's just one Rolex for now, you may not need a winder. If you wear the Rolex in the evenings for a period of say 6 hours, you should be fine. A daily wear of 6 hours should give the watch enough power reserve to keep it going. Then, of course, you will get to the weekends when you will be wearing it most of the time. Also remember one thing.....once you get used to seeing the Rolex on your wrist, other watches will pale by comparison and you may be pretty reluctant to take it off!!

Once you strap that baby on you may find it very hard to take off
Don't invest to much on the winder yet. you may wear it alot more than you think! |

CJ's got a point, but in any case the watch is going to run for at least 40 hours once it's fully wound. If you're wearing both the Rolex and the Seiko at different parts of the day, you should be fine without a winder. By the way, nice combination and welcome to the club - a fair few of us here have Seiko divers' as well!

Yes agree with whats already said if you wear both watches for around 6 hours daily they will be fine.A manual wind now and then will do no harm.Watch winders are fine if you have watches with a lot of complications.

I switch between the ExpII and my Seiko Black Monster without a winder. The great thing about the Rolex is that you can manually wind it to keep it running, negating the need for a winder.
That said, Orbita makes a robust winder. |

The others have given you good advice, Richard. If you have only two automatics with no complications and you will switch off every day there is no real need for a winder. As Padi said, you really only need a winder if your watch has complications (date/day/ moon phase, etc.) that would require resetting if the watch stops.
If you do want a winder, Orbita and Underwood make good relatively high end winders. LeBlanc makes a good winder (and you can get single, double, and triple winders at reasonable prices). Steinhausens are crap. Don't bother with them.

Why do you take yours off when you shower? Afraid to get it wet? Even the EXP is good to 100 m. That should cover you in the shower.

I always wear a watch, sometimes even in the shower (oysters can take it, they are used to water LOL)
If you have only 2 automatic watches (for now, hehehehe) dont worry about the winder. Early in 2005 I only had 3 auto watches that I wore all the time and it wasnt too bad. But once the bug bites you and you end up with 3 new Rolexes in one year along with a new Seiko and a new Omega auto then you might want to consider a winder LOL Yes 2005 was a busy year for me. You'll see, you will get the bug eventually LOL |
