I made "the call" to the AD

Called my AD today to let them know I procured the watch I was looking for. I'd been on "the list" about a year, and this was not a particularly tough to get watch (Submariner, no date). It was actually a very cordial and interesting conversation, where he talked about his frustration with "the process" as he called it. I appreciate his words, they felt sincere, and we'd had some good convos in the past that he referenced. I mainly wanted to advise them so I would not delay someone else getting it. Anyway, I laughed thinking about how this was a "the call" reversal. I did mention wanting an OP (42with green dial) and he said he'd "find one for me"

Why don’t you just stay on the list?

I think this will actually help you get your next watch faster. Which AD was it?

He’s got the watch elsewhere, and now wants another piece instead from the AD (green OP)

Congratulations on your Sub.

There were two Rolex watches I didn't end up getting from my AD. I took them both in and they authenticated them. This wasn't necessary but it was a kind gesture and it would have been rude to refuse. I've alway believed my AD has been straightforward with me and I respond accordingly. We get on well, although I haven't lost sight of my role in the "relationship".

Yep, the new “the call reversal” to the AD…how things have changed over the years…

Congratulations on your new Submariner.

You may be waiting for a while on an OP 42 … I don’t think Rolex manufactures this model yet

Hard to say since we are still at the "having good conversations/AD says he looks forward to getting me the watches I'm looking for". I can't bring myself to buy random jewelry so no spend history at this location (and they do not carry Tudor). He did offer me a DJ that was on my original list but was since dropped.

Without any purchase history, its tough getting a sports watch from any AD...especially sub.

I have a closer AD that flat out told me I need to buy a Tudor so my name can be "bumped up" the list. I declined and the rep was "umm..ok..". But he was super friendly everyime I stopped by in the store and chatted quite a bit but always same story "sorry brother...we dont get much stock and waitlist is super high for your sub date".

I was on the waitlist at another farther out AD. Only stopped by twice and then got a text from the rep asking if I was still in the area as she had my sub date for pickup!!! 7 weeks wait and no prior purchase.

I'm using the same rep to get a batman next year for my 50th! The kicker is the other AD called me after 8 months and asked me if I was interested in a white gold sub. I didnt bother calling them back.

Sounds like a productive conversation with your AD! It's great that you gave them a heads-up and got a genuine response about the process. Good luck on the OP hopefully, they'll come through for you soon!

I’ve got a lot of time for this, top work…. It’s great to keep it friendly but also let them know that you don’t mess about and you won’t let them play the usual AD games…. And congratulations on the Sub, enjoy it!
