1944 "plain jane" Rolex?

Good morning all. I have a watch that is marked Rolex on the face. There are no other markings on the face. However the crown says oyster and Rolex. it also has a cross on it.

I have searched the internet and cannot find anything as "plain jane" as this one. The serial numbers on the back date it late 1944.

The watch was in a house my parents inherited about 30 years ago.

I am attaching a couple of pictures. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks.

I believe it is a ref. 3133 bubbleback (Oyster Perpetual) with an incorrectly refinished dial. You are probably right about the date.

Here is mine (also pink gold/steel) for comparison (all-original). Note the "perpetual," "oyster," and "chronometer" and "swiss made" designations (as well as the correct fonts, neater printing of hatch marks and minute track, coronet, etc) on the dial.

I was going to reply that mine is not a perpetual but I shook it in a circular motion and could hear/feel something rotating. Yet I have previously hand wound the crown and the watch ran. Can a Rolex perpetual also be hand wound? Maybe the handling of the watch when I thought I was winding it was enough to autowind it. Thanks for alerting me that it is a perpetual as I have never worn it (had it for 30 years) and always assumed it was a wind up.

Very nice Adam, congratulations!

looks like a unique watch! it appears in the first photo that there is something on the crown tube (almost like it is welded?) I have never seen that though I am very farm form an expert. Yes many automatic movements can be hand wound such as my 53' 6298.

Neat watch though wear it proudly

It's a perpetual (bubbleback). You are hearing/feeling the rotor. And, yes, it can be manually wound. It should be serviced before using it much, however.

Mine does have the same markings on the crown.
