Rolex 6694
I am looking at buying a 6694 OYSTERDATE Rolex from 1961 with the numbers 6+9 on a black dial, serial 144......
I cant find any pictures online of this model having numbers. Can anyone confirm if these early 6694 watches had numbers? |

At a glance . . . serial puts it circa 1966 not 1961. Hands would be wrong for 1961, too. Dial looks replaced, box is wrong.

Fake dial, fake hands, fake box. That watch is a mess and is priced about $3000 too much for what you get and the seller has only 50% in his feedback.

This looks like one of the "Mall Specials" where dials, hands, bezels, bracelets, etc. have been swapped to make an older watch look more modern.
Almost every mall in America has at least one jeweler that sells such things, and I'm guessing they are even more prevalent in other countries. Ironically, the companies that do the modifications to tart up these watches often sell the original items on ebay, possibly so that owners of these watches can buy parts to make them look original again. It seems to be a good business model as there is no shortage of potential buyers for these watches, who presumably think they are getting a good deal until they realize it isn't exactly as advertised and they have bought an assembly of fake and aftermarket junk mixed in with some genuine parts. |

I think you have your answer OP.
If you were the buyer (coincidentally sold yesterday too), I would talk to the seller. |

Btw the model no doesn't appear to 6694, as it looks like an 8 and a 5 in engravings !?
