The time has come… My road to PM!

Hi all,

I can’t remember the last time I started a thread here. This may be a bit long so please bear with me!

After a difficult few months, including the loss of my young mother unexpectedly within a short period of time due to the big C, I felt it was the right time. I now live with the mantra that if you are in a position to do something, there is really no reason to wait as there is no tomorrow.

10 years ago I joined this forum and have learnt so much along the way – my first one was a 114060 ND Sub that I wore proudly for over two years. Several more came and went and the last two I have battered to death since 2017 are my BLNR and LVc – both bought at list I must add before the madness began!

Although I didn’t need to, I decided to let the LVc go in part exchange today. I have enjoyed that watch over the years but it was always second best to my BLNR and If I’m being honest, I think the green had run it’s course for me. I have read a few threads here recently with members expressing remorse on letting it go but it was hardly worn over the last couple of years so I think I made the right decision.

When I joined this forum, my tastes were very different and seeing pictures of gold watches made me cringe… How things change as we age eh?

Now for the incoming – I have looked at pretty much every iteration of this watch over the years and can honestly say I pretty much like them all now. Having said that, there was one in particular that I always went back to partly thanks to the numerous photos posted here by members of this forum. It’s just timeless to me and gives me the ancient Rome/Egypt nostalgia vibes. Add the fact that it was first introduced in 1956 which was Mum’s birth year makes it even more special to me.

So here it is, apologies for the poor pics but my I’ve never been known for my photography skills!

Thanks for reading

Dee

Sorry about you mom!
Great watch. My DD40 is my first all gold Rolex and over a year later it still makes me smile like a little kid every time I put it on.

Really touched me reading your post and I'm very sorry to hear of your loss Dee

It's good to be able to let go of things we once loved (watches) and to know we'll never let go of those we've loved

Hope you think and her and smile every time you get to wear your stunning new DD

It's a wonderful watch and it looks wonderful on you

I am warming to the prospect of a YG DD

Gold watches

Firstly, condolences on your loss.

Congratulations on your latest pick up, stunning.

And I can totally relate to your change of heart on gold watches, I was very much the same with anything gold or gold colored especially cars and watches, however I just picked up a gold daytona on oysterflex and planning to buy what I can only describe as the Rolex gold brick next

Thanks guys, much appreciated.

Current state of the collection but I think a certain chronograph will be joining the stable one day too… Like gold, I didn’t have any time for this watch either!

Pic of the green DD40 - I’d still pick the white.

My sincere condolences, and I’m so sorry to hear…..as I can relate.

You can’t beat a yellow gold day date, especially the year of this particular DD.
Looks great and enjoy.

Absolutely love Rolex gold. It's precisely as you say: life so unbelievably short, buy something fantastic and wear the hell out of it.

I am sorry about your mother passing. You have an interesting watch journey and this will probably not be the end of it even though you have a watch that could be an end all, be all. Congratulations.
