AD called my friend and wanted to sell 126660
My friend told me today that a local AD contacted him for a brand new 126660 James Cameron edition. Should he do it or just wait for lower offer sometime down the road from either AD or greys?
Is this a hard to buy steel model in AD? Collector potential? |

It’s hard to buy, and there is collector potential. However, it can be had within about six months with the right persistence. That being said, if he wants it more than other pieces, he should get it now and not wait for a grey or AD discount.

Could be hearsay. We need the testimony of the friend.

I don't expect it to go below MSRP, I purchased one of the first James Cameron's when they initially came out. Which was before all of the hype of watches going over retail etc. And I purchased this watch at Retail but they didn't charge me sales tax. I definitely tried to get a discount but was unsuccessful. It's definitely a beautiful watch and in my opinion will be a very desirable piece later on.

Super cool watch but if he’s buying it with the hope of making money then he shouldn’t. I doubt there will ever be a discount down the road.

If he’s in the market for that model, I’d buy it provided he can have it shipped or go and pick it up.

He should buy it if he wants to wear it and enjoy his time. Is he looking to buy a watch he'll wear daily or once a week or so? How active is he? Sports?

Tell him to buy it if he wants to wear the watch...maybe he can talk to the AD about negotiating the price, depending on if there are others that are waiting on the call the AD may/may not work with your friend. This all really hinges on what kind of relationship your friend has with the dealer.

If he's asking if he should do it, he shouldn't do it.

More pertinent questions to ask your friend, IMO, would be: Does he like the DSSD? Does he prefer the JC dial or Black? Does he prefer larger watches? What is his wrist size? |

Whats his goal?
Buy to own? Go for it. Buy to flip and lose money? Go for it. Buy to flip and make "Daytona" kind of money? Gamble the money in the current stock market is more exciting. :)

I wouldn't pay retail for a 126660. JC or black can be had under.

Doubtful you will find a watch under MSRP that is new, un worn, un sized, complete set with five year warranty from any AD or gray dealer anytime soon. No it's not hard to obtain one of these, and no it's not likely to be a collectible due to having been produced in great numbers as it is not a limited production piece.

Buy if they wish to wear! Collection wise it's mass produced and very large so doesn't appeal to those without large wrists- if he tried to sell in the future. As avatar the abyss etc become less popular the name ceases to resonate among the market too.

Call and I guarantee 10.4 buys it with a wire. May have to spend more than 30 seconds on Google to get a JC under retail. |
