Full YG Daytona VS oyster flex Daytona

Why is oyster flex in higher demand than full YG Daytona. To me it’s clear and obvious which is the superior watch..YG Daytona . I don’t get the oyster flex hype..I know someone will “enlighten me” if anyone can please share your 126508

Well, the OF is $10,000 cheaper. And many don't like the "bling" of a full gold bracelet. And many think a rubber band is more comfortable than metal. And many think the gold bezel scratches too easily, so prefer the durability of the OF's ceramic bezel.

Exactly this. Weight probably also a factor. Some like the heft of a full gold piece and granted that it feels special, I can see how it can become a little too much. I was between full bracelet and OF but holding out for the OF. Either way, both "versions" are amazing and it is really about personal preference.

Thanks. I just can’t get over spending 20k on a watch with a rubber strap, the full yellow gold elevates the watch to a whole different level IMHO . Lots of people have Daytona fewer have full yellow gold

I thought I was a SS guy. I never thought I would someday wear a YG watch. But a YG watch on OF made me change my mind. For me it’s the perfect combination of colors and textures. Love the effect of the black matte dial and strap. Love the ceramic bezel.

If you go for full gold, you still spend 1000$ for each link of the bracelet. That’s pretty expensive…

It’s more than a rubber band

I have both OF and full bracelet and I would move the OF before the bracelet version. That said, in a multi-PM collection, an OF is a must have imo.

No one complained about spending 20k on a watch with a leather strap when Daytonas came on alligator.

For your 20K you're getting a Daytona with an 18ct case, an 18k clasp and a highly durable ceramic bezel.

You need to get over the "20k on a watch with a rubber strap" issue. But I doubt you will becase something tells me this is as more about what others will think of your watch than anything else

I like them both, but prefer my WG OF.

It’s easier to keep it looking pristine and it feels much better on my wrist. As I get older, the bracelet is fairly heavy and it’s difficult for me not to inadvertently hit it against something.

I am not an OF fan generally. Not because the watches look bad but rather because I’d always prefer them on bracelet. So I just don’t see a likely scenario of me getting a Daytona on OF with the alternatives out there…

I have a couple rubber strap watches but they are watches I use for activities where I wouldn’t wear a PM watch.

As for why so many appreciate OF, perhaps because they are relatively newer, somewhat trendy, sportier and can dress down watches a bit? Personally I think the look will be viewed as a little dated in a few years time, but that is just my guess… I’m no fashion guruZ

Like both, have owned both. For me, it just depends on the watch…some look better, or are more “at home” so to speak, on a bracelet, leather, or rubber strap.
A couple examples….
The Daytona IMO, can go either way as it’s a more sporty piece,
A Skydweller looks/fits better on bracelet IMO
A PP 5270J looks good on leather and nothing else IMO
A $250k+rose gold Richard Mille looks good on a rubber strap because of the nature of the watch/brand

I have a RG Daytona on OF. For me, first and foremost, it was the bezel. I had previously owned a TT Daytona and the gold bezel was a scratch magnet. Just looking at it would cause scratches. That, and the fact that I just think it looks better with the ceramic bezel. You can only get a PM Daytona with a ceramic bezel on OF, so that limits the options. Also, I view the Daytona as a sports watch, not a dress watch. I have other watches for that. As such, in my opinion the Daytona has much more of a "sport" look when it is on an OF vs. a bracelet which is the look I am after.

Agree with a lot of the comments made here. Here is mine….but I would absolutely have no hesitation in adding a full gold Daytona.

The roughly $10K price difference between the full yellow gold and OF is only if you're buying retail. On the secondary market, the difference is only about $4K, which makes it a tougher call, assuming a buyer likes both watches about the same.

Nowadays on the secondary market, the current model full gold Daytonas are going for about retail, and below if you factor in taxes. OF Daytonas are still selling for well above retail. In other words, if you're on the fence about which model to buy, it would seem the full gold is a better deal on the gray market, but OF is much better at retail, if you're lucky enough to get one from an AD.

While I agree, very few people are lucky enough to get one in retail from an AD. It’s one the hardest to get.

I have SS and WG watches. I wanted a YG Daytona but didn’t want the full YG version. Full YG is just not my thing. The YG on oysterflex is a perfect balance for me.

Stunner - I am starting to think this looks better then the old dial now. I just think its more classier and appropriate for more situations whilst still retaining the sporty looks.

Perhaps on a Daytona an oyster Flex might be better than a full yellow gold bracelet. however when I get to a gold watch not a two-tone i usually think of day-date at that point I want full yellow gold bracelet case hands hour markers Etc. Then if I want to put it on a strap i can always go to rubber B. They have Spring Bar slots cut in the rubber strap that fits uptight against the case looks like it was made by Rolex for Rolex. as I understand it the oysterflex does not give you an opportunity to get to the Spring Bar without prying against the gold lug because they don't have a cutout for you to put your tweezers into the Spring Bar slot or your springboard tool into a spring bar slot so you have to start doing some digging and prying and a lot of times it ends up with damage to the lug. ? However if I was going to go with a precious metal Daytona i may not want to spend the extra for the bracelet to be full precious metal so I might opt for the oyster Flex and hope that if it ever needs to come off the watch that whoever is doing it knows how to do it without damaging the lugs.
