Rolex 1675
Hi folks - I'm new to the forum and had a question for you about a 1675 I'm interested in. The watch is a 5.1xxxx series which dates it to 1977. Is there anything I should be worried about based on the scan below and also what do you think I should pay?
Thanks! Alex |

the hands look lighter, possible replacements, otherwise looks like a clean example, maybe 5k+

Is that the spring bar protruding slightly from the upper right lug? If so this could indicate an over polished case.

Thank you for all your replies. Yes, seems like the upper right lug is a bit thin. Do you think the dial has been refinished?

You'd be lucky if you can get that piece for around $5K. Very lucky.
The watch is in much better condition (from your pictures) than some of the watches offered here on TRF for $6-$7K and they were all sold. |

OK, too much talk on here about "overpolished" cases and "thin" lugs. This appears to be a very nice watch on all accounts (including its nice case and original hands) and, frankly, I would have no trouble selling this to another dealer in the trade for $6,000. Unless you have found the secret Rolex hamlet that time forgot, you are dreaming at $5,000. But, hey, you know what I always say -- dreams are free.

I just bought a 16750 last week. I would have jumped on this watch like this if I knew they existed for this price.

x2 all this negative speculation (unsubstantiated assumption) about possibly replaced hands and over-polished cases. The dial/hands look great to me (original and a good match) , and it's a perfectly decent case. Also agree re the price. $5k would be giving it away. |

Very nice example. Hands and dial look as if they match well. (Sometimes light in a photo cam be misleading.) Also, a pin sticking out a lug a little could be the pin itself, not the lug. It might be the wrong size/type. Case has been polished, but looks OK.

I am looking at one right now, on vacation, for $3000. It's actually more valuable as it is older and has a Mark I long E dial. The insert isnt as nice but, hey since you guys think its worth $6000 then you have another $3000 to use for an insert and you would still have a more valuable GMT.
I think I might try my hand selling some watches here, eBay doesnt seem to generate as much high dollar buyers as this thread. Please tell me why, if this watch is worth $6000, that the following GMT's on ebay couldnt fetch close to that price? http://www.ebay.com/itm/261709438270...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Role...item43d27cd94a http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rolex-1675-G...p2047675.l2557 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rolex-1675-G...p2047675.l2557 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rolex-GMT-Re...p2047675.l2557 I can list 20 more but, you get the idea. The watch in the post is nice and is worth $4500-5000. It isnt rare, it isnt a Gilt Dial. Clean watch with nice insert, no box, no papers, 5 mil serial. A common, run of the mill 1675 from the mid 70's. Nothing exotic about it. |

Nice GMT. If it's being offered for anything close to 5.5k and you feel comfortable with the seller then I thinks it's a very good deal. I've been actively looking at GMTs over the past year and no way does a watch like that from a legit seller go for 5k or less.

I'm with Charlie on this one. However, it is possible that I slept through the last price increase.

Buying from ebay post more risk than buying from trusted seller here hence the price difference. Personally i wouldnt pay more than 5.5k for this watch. The case has been way over polished imo. Notice how the lug holes r so close to the edge. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

X10 some of the opinions in this thread are laughable. Dial, hands and Insert are great. Case is far from over polished but hard to say for sure without other pics. |

There is nothing wrong with this watch. The dial is original, the hands are correct and original. The insert is genuine and the case is NOT overpolished by any means. I cannot see the bracelet or the case back or movement, but assuming everything is correct it is a $4500-5000 watch. Could I see it getting $5500 with nice and proper bracelet..sure. Can I see it getting $4500 with a stretched out and overpolished bracelet..yes.
As far as buying on ebay, its no different than buying from a trusted seller. Both are based on feedback and pictures. If this watch was posted on ebay I wouldnt offer the seller any more or less than if he was a seller on these forums. And for the record, the majority of sellers DO sell on ebay. I cant name a single forum seller that doesnt also sell on ebay. |
