OP 36 or 41 Green Dial?

I know this topic has been discussed so many times, but need a quick opinion on which watch looks better on my wrist, the OP36 or OP41 green dial, so please humor me lol.

The AD is pushing me to go with the OP36 (if/when it comes in), I'm guessing because it is definitely easier to get, and while it feels good on my wrist, I feel like it looks a bit small in the mirror (I am 6 feet tall with roughly 7" wrist). Meanwhile, I love the bigger and easier to read dial of the OP41 (if I can get one) but feel like the proportions are not quite as balanced on the watch, and worry it may be slightly too big.

What are your experiences with these watches in the sizes, and which looks better on my wrist? (OP36 is first pic from left and OP41 are other 4 pics)

Tastes are going to vary on this. My first Rolex was a 39mm Explorer which I loved but after I got my Submariner I ultimately ended up letting the Explorer go in favor of a 36mm Datejust. I've really been gravitating toward the "classic" sizes when it comes to watches without a sport bezel. I personally feel they look more balanced and more in proportion. You do however sacrifice some legibility as everything on the dial is, well, smaller. And that's not a minor consideration as you begin to age.

I would just urge you to go with your gut and go with what YOU think looks better on your wrist. While I'm liking the smaller sizes now, I didn't start out that way. Worst case scenario if you go with the 41 and you end up not connecting with it, it's going to be easier to unload than the 36 is. 36mm green OP is still desirable on the open market but not as much as the 41 is.

You’re going to get answers from the two camps:
1) 41, as it’s larger
2) 36, as it’s a more classical size for an OP

For the pictures you posted, 36 looks better to my eye. Plus, I’m in camp 2. Classic watches deserve classic sizing.

I just got the 41. I have 6.75 inch wrists and generally prefer smaller watches. I enjoy my 36mm datejust. My 33.5mm Patek, and a few small Vacheron dress pieces under 33mm as well. Yet, the 41mm op is perfect. It’s thin and not broad, so it doesn’t wear huge.

36 for me

I’m also 6 foot with just a slightly smaller wrist. Around 6.85

36 is the classic look. Personally, I find the larger OP versions to look more like dinner plates on the wrist.

I'm 6' 2" but have a pretty flat 7" wrist

I prefer how all the bright OP41's look on me and not so much the OP36's

In your pictures I think it does look a little big compared to the 36 but I feel those kind of pictures can be misleading

Especially if the watch hasn't been sized yet as the bracelet hanging loosely accentuates the size

I’d go with the 41. I honestly think the 41 is a bit small looking for what I’m used too. The 36 on me looked small with 7.25” wrists which I think are pretty average for a guy. Here’s my 41.

From the side view, the lug to lug creates a small gap/space when wearing the 41.

I think the 36 wears better based on the pics.

My vote (biased as I own a green and Turq 41) is the 41 unless you have a smaller wrist.

I have similar physical dimensions as you and my OPs are 41, I haven’t had a 36mm watch since the early 90’s. By most accounts OP41s seem to be in shorter supply so maybe your SA is pushing you to get what he can deliver.

I have a 7 1/2 inch wrist, and my 36mm white dial, Roman numerals gets the most wrist time out of my collection. I tried on a green dial 41mm OP, and personally didn’t like it. For a OP, I personally think a 41mm dial is too big for that style watch.

So the 36mm would be my preference. A classic watch, and style.

Personal tastes are hard to quantify and may change over time. It happened to me.

I own a 36mm DJ bought new in 1981 and it was my GADA watch for decades. Eventually I added an Omega SpeedMaster Pro (the Moonwatch), a SeaMaster, Grand Seiko, Tudor Black Bay 41 and 58 and a few more. I was trying to find the magic combination for over 15 years, changing out watches as I went along. I decided to narrow it to 3 watches, and the vintage DJ36 and BB58 were joined by a new 2023 DJ, Oyster, smooth bezel, white stick dial.

After owning the new 41mm DJ for several months, I wasn't wearing it as much as I expected, and realized that I preferred a smaller case size along with lighter weight. I sold the new DJ to a friend, and now have the 36mm DJ and the BB58. For beaters I have an Apple watch and a Timex Q GMT with Pepsi colors.

I was surprised that while the new DJ 41 felt great when I first got it, after a full hot summer on the wrist, combined with the larger case size, I decided that the more classic size watches work better for me. The extra weight and size was subtle at first, but more noticeable when shifting to the BB or vintage DJ, especially in warmer weather.

Looking at your pictures it seems that both sizes will work, but the larger case seems to fit just a bit larger on your wrist than the way my DJ41 did on me (7" wrist) which is why I sold it. If you find that the size you bought isn't the right choice, it's very easy to resell and get the one that works better.

Good luck either way - It's a nice looking watch!

Thanks-- looks great on your wrist. My wrist is not flat so that could also be why it looks bigger, and a loose bracelet makes sense as I was trying to balance it as much as possible. Appreciate your feedback!
