TT Blue Sub Dial Color/Shade Research....

Do you have a TT Blue Sub??

This is a study to determine the shades or hues of the various releases of the TT Blue..

If the results show promise this will become a TRF database for indexing and cataloguing the various production runs and hues.

Post a clear and focused picture of your TT Blue dial so color can be determined, along with the first 4 letter/numbers of the serial to determine approximate year..

If known, also add the region or location of the purchase.

If used, the contributors will be given photo and contribution credits..

The difficulty in establishing consistency or varience by "vintage" is that the color will invariably be altered by ambient light, camera, exposure, etc. For example the shade in mine looks different in each of these photos, and for reference, the table cloth that it's sitting on is navy. All that said, this is my Z990XXX

Not my best pic but it's the best indoor match to the colour, outside is another matter, it changes hue & density like a cuttlefish, simple beautiful.

Solid 18k w/ceramic will be first. Then the ss/gold.

In regards to this topic. I can say after putting over 100 blue ss/gold submariners into inventory over the last few years I don't think there is any way to track it. I have had three at once come in and be two different shades. It seems they are either a purplish blue, or very well matching to the insert blue.

Hope this helps,

AD

Mine dances from near black to blue to purple

depending on the lighting. Serial # L372982 This is the purple shot. Picture was shot at 25,000 feet in the cockpit of a C130. Watch was not cleaned up. I have owned it since 1992. It was a present to myself for getting my used car dealers license. Bob Kotula - 1st post

great pics y'all,

this makes me ache for a bluesy myself. saw a nice pre-owned piece but the clasp is S/S instead of T/T.

is it normal?

My U sreies has the all stainless clasp too, dont think they started making the clasp with gold in it until 2000/01 and now they have solid endlinks and the lugs are not drilled anymore.

I've seen some 16613 with the word rolex around the inner dial and other do not have this inscription. Are both real?

the gold through clasp was brought in about 2000 , some one will let you know for sure , stainless clasp will prob have holes in the lugs too, that changed about the same time , i think , but again , some one will let you know for sure
question
are there two different min hand thicknesses , some seem thicker than others , or is it my imagination ,
some great pic there though

Hi William! Thatīs me again!
yes, the inner ring you refer, is called "rehaut" and in last series came with the word Rolex engraved, as well as the serial number.
I canīt remember well now, the year this feature started in the Rolex line, nor the serial number range, but if you read through the Forum, will find this info for sure.
Best cordial regards, Abel.

Looks like my pics are gone but took few more since i had Josh at Foutanes update the bezel insert to gold numbers! Transitional "SWISS" Luminova U series 822!

sorry about the smudges and lint, would have been a nice shot!

ps watch will never leave the family but i did keep the old scratched up silver number bezel just in case!

Wow! A 16613 lover's dream thread!

I like the shots with the darker looking gold and darker looking blue.
Hard to tell with different lighting but definitely a great thread for us blue TT lovers!
