Black sub date 2024 vs Starbucks (MK2) 2024

If I can only keep one of these watches, to use as a daily wear and to be my one and only watch. Which one should I keep and why?

As a one and only ever, the black one. Just goes with everything and as time has shown subs are timeless.

Black because it matches every occasion overall easier - also easier for me to match because I wear business attire daily for work so that would be my choice. The starbucks pops more though of course because of the color.

One of the things I love about my black submariner is the ability to dress up or dress down. Casual or business attire, it always works. Not saying the starbucks cant do the same, but IMO just not as well.

I have the green and I also deliberated the same question before buying it. Black is the absolute classic and absolutely amazing.

Green is just a little different (not just from the black submariner but from the sea of blue and black watches that most people wear). And MK2 colour is just amazing.

I have the black and kinda wished I had gotten the LV green bezel. Black over time gets boring as it's a all black monotone dial/bracelet.

The green (or any color) makes stuff more exciting to look at! I love my sub but if given the option to exchange it for a starbucks/kermit, I'll do it in a heartbeat.

I have the black, but after getting the Starbucks - I think it’s a great every day watch. Goes with everything but has enough pop.

Keep whatever reference that YOU like the most.
If people only obtained the references they truly had their heart set on, not because .....

The person doesn't really want that reference, but bought it anyway for FOMO...
The price is going up...
They are still trading way above retail...
They are being discontinued...
The person bought it to keep in their safe, then 5 years later complain because it's still worth more than they paid for it......

there would be watches available for the people that truly want them.

Be sure to read this forum if you ever go on holiday so you know what countries you can wear the watch in.

Green for me. I had both and like the green better now. Like a lot of areas, where I live black subs are everywhere.

Couldn't agree more. I had the non ceramic black date for 10+ years. Now I have the MKII and wouldn't go back

Sell them both. If you’re in a bind like that, just sell them both.

Behind easy choice. The LV.

Far more interesting, fun and less
common (I’m not saying it’s rare).

They both can feel monotonous after a bit

The black feels too plain
The green feels too colorful

I’ve come to find the best medium is a black sub + a pop of color elsewhere (like a Pepsi). As an alternative if green is your favorite color, a Sub LV + like a GMT LN.

I couldn’t do a LV in a one watch collection as the green is too stark. The MK2 bezel is REALLY good though, so much better than previous iteration.

Agree with this but would add that you can put the black on a nato, rubber or MN strap.add color on your own in summer as needed. Both are great and if you have a black dial watch with no color (speedy?) the LV works great as the other watch!

A low key guy who wants a perfect two watch sport collection? LV + Speedy. You’re all in around $20k, perfect duo, spot on.

The Starbucks. Normally I would say black but this one is balanced, with a black dial and green bezel.

You’ve either waited years with an AD for both or paid over list.

Why can you only keep one?

Or is it ‘if’ like ‘theoretically’?

LV. The splash of green makes it more interesting and fun yet keeping all of the classic DNA of the Sub.

LV is my choice

Black is very common, popular for a reason I guess but I like to be a little different.

Speaking for myself would keep the watch I wanted to keep that's the only opinion that matters. But not a huge fan of coffee prefer tea so would choose to keep the classic black dial sub.

The black dial is a classic and an icon. The green is nice but it is somewhat of a novelty. The black dial Submariner is the cornerstone of my collection and everything else reaches out from there.

Prefer the Black or the original 5 digit LV.

Can’t go wrong with black it’s iconic, but the green is amazing and wears well. It will make you smile when you look at it.

I would choose the LV. I had the LN and at the time of purchase it was my dream watch, but after a few months it felt so monotone. I was coming from a BB58 which seemed so much more interesting than the sub itself.
