Panerai PAM24 and 25

While posting about my PAM24 on Reddit, a couple of posters mentioned their desire for the PAM25 in titanium. My interest was piqued and I start looking into them and found one for slightly more than the 24. There are some minor differences between the two models other than the metal used. The 24 has a plain dial and the 25 a waffle dial. The 24 ways in at a 152 grams where as the 25 at 113. That's a significant weight difference. The 24 uses the old school screw to hold in the connector for the straps where as the 25 uses the pressure detent which requires depression of a button with a special tool as well as pushing the bolt through with the other half of the tool. Frankly the screwed in bolt is much easier to manage especially during reassembly. What has really caught my attention is the color difference between the steel and the titanium metals. The steel looks whiter while the Ti has almost a greenish hue. Additionally, the steel has some polished area whereas the titanium is all brushed finish. I'm enjoying the two watches. The first is running about 15sec/day fast, whereas I'm still timing the 25. At any rate here's a photo of the two, side by side.

A great pair. Personally I prefer titanium Panerai as I feel the subtle tone balances out the larger size making the watches more subtle, and lighter to wear. The same goes for brushing, so brushed and titanium pushes my buttons.

Thanks for sharing. I would be tempted to 'invest' in a Panerai service and refinish when funds allow as both these pieces when spruced up are beauties and the differences will become more obvious after a refurb.

I have the 25 and it’s a true keeper. Classic submersible. That flat Panerai shape along with titanium creates a very comfortable watch. A year ago o decided to send it to Panerai for an overhaul and they did a fantastic job. I know many would not do this, but I replaced the dial, bezel, and hands so all lume would match. It’s like a new watch and that ETA movement in this watch is an accurate workhorse and has been for many years.

Nice watches. I have a long history with Panerai and have been into them and also have moved away a couple of times. I like the Divers with wear and these two look great. I am currently looking for a Diver as I have a 317,233 and a 992 as I think the right one will work with my small collection.

Terrible! You’ll never be able to get that T dial back. I hope you keep that watch forever because you destroyed the resale value.

I'm seriously considering the revamp by Panerai. There are some local services I'm also considering as they will involve more security. Right now both watches are new to me so I'm hesitant to let them go just yet.

Do you know how long Panerai services former models ?

Well I knew I would get a reaction!! But mine was not the T dial. It is a later version 25. And the way I see it, I wear my watches and prefer them to be purposeful. Meaning I want lume and I want my bezel to work properly, and want them to match up. I’m not really into investment side of this. Although if were the tritum dial I probably would have preserved it.

The 24 was my first ever Panerai. It was the one watch which really started a lot of admiration of horology. Well done on the 25. Rare birds

No but the 25 is going in for service so it's still being serviced. The 24 was serviced two years ago.
