Is Rose gold more popular then Yellow gold?

The rose gold 36mm datedate with diamond markers retails for almost $3k more then the Yellow gold

Im not sure it is down to popularity, but it the same in other ranges.

The full white gold and rose gold GMTs are about $2k more than the yellow gold.

Im not sure if it is due to material price or availability, or just because Rolex say so.

I understand it is the added manufacturing cost to Rolex to make Rose or White gold. What it is alloyed with, etc.

Rolex will say it is because of cost but its more there is more demand for RG these last few years than YG, esp with AP, PP and others.

⬆️⬆️⬆️ agree with Neil. Rolex knows what they are doing.
As for the general question… I would say sales numbers would tell the true story. Very much personal preference, as both colors look great. I like yellow gold over rose gold… BUT… there are many cases where it depends on the model and brand.

I imagine it's about manufacturing cost.

But on a personal taste level, I like rose gold, I do not like yellow gold.

Isn’t WG more expensive than both RG and YG? I believe it’s due to material composition difference between the metals making the prices vary slightly.

I would echo what has been said earlier. I do not think it is a popularity issue. In general rose gold and yellow gold seem to swap every few years which one is more popular.

RG has always been more expensive but doubt it is more popular.

I used to like rose more until I went to the Apple Store, of all places, a few months ago and an employee there, old guy, had a two tone yellow gold DateJust, jubilee, champaign dial. It looked amazing. As soon as I saw it I thought that has to be my old man watch. I chatted with him a little, he's had it for 27 years and had such a proud look when I asked about it.

Rose gold is sexy. Yellow gold is also sexy but I noticed I prefer when yellow gold is brushed versus polished for a more subtle look instead of an in your face look

It’s way more popular in watches, I think Vacheron Constantin only has one yellow gold choice now

It can be designed for many styles of both men and women. Yellow gold is very suitable for men and the other color is extremely suitable for women

I think yellow gold is the better to have in the long term. Rose gold isn't quite a fad, but it's not exactly as timeless as yellow--especially for the Day-Date.

Just to refine that slightly, PP and AP's RG is more a mix of RG and YG so has the best blend for me, not too yellow not too coppery.

I agree. The Everose is a proprietary alloy, mixing in some platinum and other things (so I read).

I prefer the softer hue of rose gold, but there are some really stunning yellow gold pieces, like the new GMT.

My speculation is that Rolex sells 10 YG models for every RG, WG or Platinum watches. Other than on the Forum I do not see or know a lot of owners of PM Rolex watches that are not YG. I like the RG and have tried it several times and it does not match my skin tone the way YG does. RG also comes and goes in popularity and we have just had a window that it was back. Just my thoughts.

I prefer Rose Gold. I have the one you posted a pic of with the brown Ombre Dial as well as a DD 40 with the Olive Dial. I've tried YG but it's too flashy for me.

RG is too pink for me but don't mind it in TT. I lean towards platinum or WG but did add a DD 40 YG. I had to have a traditional DD. All about preferences.

Rolex's RG is WAY too pink for me and I doubt I'll ever own a piece.

I'm more of a YG fan, for sure.

In other brands, their RG is more to my liking. Cartier's RG is very close to their YG.

LOL!

When I was young, I wore yellow gold jewelry exclusively. I think my first wedding set was yellow gold. My watches were two tone with yellow gold. At some point, I switched to white gold jewelry and all SS watches. However, I’m discerning, in certain circumstances. I always wear a Miraculous medal, which is yellow gold, as is its chain. It just seems like it should be, IMO. Most of my watches are still all stainless steel. When I fell in love with the Wimbledon dial, I thought it needed gold to make the rhodium dial pop. The yellow gold TT was the obvious choice, for me. The rose gold is nice, but a bit girly. I’m not one for girly watches. No offense to the guys who choose the rose gold.

I think it’s personal preference. I owned a bluesy for about 4 years. I never bonded with the yellow gold aspect of it and moved on. Picked up a 126711chnr last year. I love the way the “everose” looks and compliments my skin tone. I also like how the rose gold takes on the appearance of stainless depending how the light shines off of it. So again, it comes down to preference. My dad has a YG day date and he loves it, but isn’t a fan of the rose gold. Don’t know if it’s generational as he’s 70 and I’m 43. But any PM pieces I acquire going forward will be WG or rose. I’m not gonna lie, I’ve been super tempted to flip my omega smp 300 blue dial towards the TT blue dial rose smp 300.

I feel like YG is acquired taste.

RG & WG are hot right now. More demand drives the prices up.

The pivotal moment for me was 35. I couldn’t stand the look of YG but now, it’s the only PM I look forward to owning. I got my “feet wet” with a 18K Cuban link chain to see how I got used to it. I’m now ready for the DD in YG.
