Hahahahahaha. I hope this is a bad translation. If not ...

If that is real, and if the translation is accurate, what a self-important tool!
The Dunning-Kruger effect is strong here. |

Own 8 pateks here and could get this from AD if I actually wanted it in short fashion I suspect. Dislike it. He can call me a hater all day long.
I thank him though. He's saved me money for the future. I also appreciate the interviews questions with feedback we were all thinking even if the responses were less than desired. The journalist was certainly no patek apologist. |

Makes me appreciate my Aquanaut that much more. Cubitus being some sort of new sports line is likely going to be wishful thinking for Patek. It's like ChatGPT was asked to make a square nautilus and it spit out and image and Patek took the first draft and said "GENIUS!"

It seems to me it’s exactly the opposite to what TS is quoted saying. The haters are mostly people who have owned (and currently own) a Patek. It is those who haven’t owned, but who have wanted to own, a Patek who seem to like it. Go figure.

Generally, I like his interviews a lot. This one, too. I just don’t like the new model. I’m sure enough other people will.

From the article, “The man who trained and introduced me said to me as I left, "Good luck, Thierry, everything has already been done." He almost broke me with that statement, and I swore to myself that I would do anything to make the opposite true.” -TS
After reading this, I can only think of a kid getting goaded into doing something he shouldn’t do — TS is trying so hard (too hard?) to make his stamp on design.

Keep it double or triple sealed in your safe. That's your best bet.

Honestly I don’t think it is completely awful. I’m sure it will grow on us. I would have just liked it to be smaller. Rectangular watches wear bigger. On top of that the tend is moving towards smaller watches.

The platinum piece looks great. My only gripe is the date setting requires a tool to set.

I'm glad so may people don't like it. Means there are less people in front of me in the queue....!! I own a nautilus and aquanaut and really like it because it is so different and registered my interest for the green dial within the first few minutes of its announcement so I hope it will be less than several years......!! I heard they are going to "top load" production in the first year so that might help too.

Truthfully, that watch does not look good on TS. There just isn't a lot of good flow from the case design.

I've been responsible for creation for a long time. I'm good at it without really having a clue, I never went to design school. But I grew up with the products and I have a strength in that. Why? I don't know, it's always been easy for me to have ideas and go into the details. |

TS's Take on the Cubitus Release
After reading the interview and the details surrounding this release, I can’t help but feel that it’s more about Thierry Stern’s desire to create a “new line of connoisseur watches” under his own name, without putting in the full effort or R&D expected from Patek. He even mentioned that he personally led the design process, but the language and wording he used in the interview raise some questions in my mind:
Interestingly, Thierry emphasized that he doesn’t work with external designers because it never works—yet, history shows that his father, Mr. Philippe Stern, did just that. For example, Gerald Genta, a renowned freelance designer, is the one who actually designed the NAUTILUS, not Patek Philippe themselves. Genta collaborated with Patek, though he was never directly employed by the company. When the Aquanaut was released in 1997, Philippe Stern was in charge, and while Thierry was part of the team, he wasn’t leading the project. So basically it’s not his own accomplishment, legacy or design. It makes me wonder if Thierry isn’t entirely comfortable with the fact that the Nautilus wasn’t designed in-house. This new release feels like an attempt to replicate the success of the Nautilus, perhaps to shift credit away from Genta by mimicking key elements like the bracelet and dial pattern, while subtly claiming it as his own original design. Instead of an evolution, it feels more like an effort to redefine the past by forcing a design onto collectors under the guise of innovation (maybe a round movement in a square 45mm L2L is innovative?). These are just my thoughts, but this doesn’t seem like a genuine progression for Patek. Rather, it comes across as an attempt to discredit Genta’s original design. Honestly, I believe that if Thierry could cancel the Nautilus line from Patek’s catalog completely—he would. But of course, that’s not possible and would severely hurt the brand. Instead, I suspect he will phase out the remaining stainless steel models, leaving the Nautilus available only in precious metals, as they’re more profitable. This would also help boost sales of his new own designed CUBITUS lineup (because, really, who would currently choose a Cubitus over a Nautilus if given the choice?). Or maybe I’m just overthinking it… anyways I just wanted to share my thoughts - it’s late already, gotta get some coffee and head out to see if I can buy one or two. P.S. I LOVE THE CUBITUS NO CAP.
