AD stock at Raffis in Sqaure One - Mississauga, Canada

Lots of stock of two tone and PM.

Stainless section was full but they couldn’t / wouldn’t sell me anything as the sales person said “if we sell any of these to you we won’t have any for our customers to try on and we don’t know when we will get any more in stock.”

Just FYI. Sad state of affairs.

Did they have a BLRO on display?

You should check out RdV on Bloor St. West. Much better stock than the Raffi locations (Yorkdale and SQ1). Nicer folks and they actually don’t play games there either. Whatever you see is exactly what’s available for immediate purchase. Lets you keep stickers and warranty card as well. Ask for Anna, great manager.

Wait a minute, they wouldn't have anything for their customers to try on? What did that make you then, a non-customer?? If one of their "customers" wants buy something are they going to say "no, because then our other customers won't have anything to try on" Something here makes no sense.

Nope - they wouldn’t - they said you can try them on but if you want to buy one, then place a deposit or pay in full and wait for piece to arrive.

So their watches are basically "display only"?

Maybe - or maybe it was only for me lol - maybe they thought I couldn’t afford to buy it or my watch was fake or who knows ? - maybe they didn’t want any business. I think aside from the SS pieces, all others were available.

Yeah, something is wrong with that scenario, "our customers won't have anything to try on" sounds F'd up to me. That's one store I just wouldn't go back to for ANYTHING.

I don’t buy a watch that has been sitting in the display case that has been tried on by 1,000 people. It is a used watch at that point.

Great strategy—don’t sell a watch so you can try to sell a watch?!

The same in Calgary with certain new models, like the Pepsi and Root beer GMT. They have them, but won't sell them. They'll place you on the list and then you can buy it when it's your turn.

FWIW, I went to the Rolex boutiques and Tourneau in Vegas earlier this week and there wasn't a stainless steel professional model anywhere to be found.

This was the same situation at raffi yorkdale. They have them so people can try them on, then they place an order. They say they can get the watch in 3-4 months. I think it's better than not showing any stock, at least it gets people in the door and gives them a chance to see how they fit.

Maybe they were dummies? The watch(es), I mean, not the sales-staff?

Maybe this is company policy secondary to the current climate. But I agree, my threshold for used watch is after the first 500 people try it on lol.

I’ve seen the shift in attitude by the Raffi guys 2016 on ward. I agree with the comment above about them having stock and claiming it’s for customers to see, “we can’t even sell you as these are show pieces”. They don’t even apparently have a wait list for the new Basel models. Not sure where the models are going then.

Was there today, I have bought 2 watches from them before and they told me the same thing, the watches are not for sale... I didn’t push, but I was a bit taken aback.

They had a 114060, 116610LN and 116710LN in the case among others. Said wait time for a sub is 6 months, despite the ones sitting there. Sales person told me they view it as their competitive advantage (my words not his) to be able to allow customers to try watches on before buying. I am not sure how I feel about it. I think ADs should have stock that people can try, and at the end of the day, them selling the couple subs in the display isn’t going to solve the supply issue. I guess ADs can’t win - people complain about empty show cases, but also complain when there is something in the case that isn’t for sale. I guess the solution is dummy watches as I think someone mentioned above.

I agree with Raffi in NOT selling your display models. If they do not have the watch to show people and let them try on they will lose sales. In my case I went to SQ1 to look at a SS Sub, they had one for me to see, touch , try on etc.. It was only after trying the watch on and seeing it on my wrist that I decided to purchase. If they did not have that display piece I would not have purchased one.....

Now I'm just waiting for mine to arrive... aghhh.

Raffi Jewelers, complacency at it's finest. Their sales reps think too highly of themselves. Poor business standards for such a great brand.

Back in 1989 aged 19 years old I went to live with my uncle in Canada for 6 months and got a job in Square One.

My post has nothing to do with this thread - it just bought back memories :-)

At lunch I saw a young lady eating a hot dog. My post has nothing to do with this thread either but your 19 year old reference reminded me of her.

I guess the idea is similar to a new car dealer. These watches are considered their "demos".

This is great to hear, I've been in a couple times (work just down the street) and will be in the market for my first Rolex probably early next year at my current savings pace.

Now I have to decide if I wait until after next Basel to decide what I want :D
