Lume shot - Rolex and Seiko
Hi guys,
I thought it would be fun to take a few pictures of my Explorer 1 and Seiko Monster side by side with the lume fully charged. The Seiko is definitely brighter but the color of the Explorer is much nicer IMO. Anyway, check it out: |

I would also like to see a picture of the lume of both watches after 1, 2 or 5 hours of darkness..... very curious to see the durability of both lumes... I am not overwhelmed by the lume on the modern Rolexes, they fade quite fast.

Seiko lume, even on the cheaper watches, blows Rolex out of the water, both for brightness and duration.

The bright glow fades quickly in both of them. The monster's lume lasts much longer, but it's not a fair comparison, since the lume markers are much larger.

To be fair, you should have included a Luminox watch in the comparison. It out shines both the Rolex and Seiko. And, it never needs charging. I wear Rolex daytimes and Luminox at night.

Yep, my skx divers both have stronger lume and last longer than my Rolex. Seiko is king when it comes to lume.

So I’ve done some lume testing. Like allow same light on several watches then put in dark room and check every hour or so for 6-8 hours. Interesting; Seiko MM300 and Pelagos probably tie for brightest at start and both last for duration. I find the SD43 not as bright at start but after several hours it does very well. The clarity and resolution, though not as bright is still very easy to read and I find it brighter with higher level of clarity than the Seiko SKX and new Seiko samurai. Much brighter than the lume on the sd4k, I guess just due to size of markers and amount of luminous material they can hold.

The lume of any Rolex sport watch is not hard to be beaten by that of any other brand.
However, it is more interesting to compare the lume of Tudor Pelagos with any Seiko dive watch. |

Probably. He's a Seiko-wearing Rolex technician.

Ironically my Pelagos was one of the only watches that I have owned that rivals my Tuna in Lume. Pelagos has comparatively large lume plots compared to most Rolex divers though.
