Looking for a watch winder - cheapest one

Hi I'm just looking for a watch winder.

A cheap one that does its job is perfect for me!

Do you have any recommendation?

I don't want those fancy ones that go like 200~300

Would this one work just fine?

In most things in life you get what you pay for.
The cheapest winder is your wrist or your fingers. If you can't afford a decent one use the ones you were born with.

Ummm... My Rolex watches would put ME in the for sale section if I bought that winder for them.

Dont get me wrong, I understand being frugal but would you really want to put a watch that costs between 5-10k (average Rolex) on a winder that costs $28 bucks If you need a winder there are plenty out there for a few hundred bucks that will work great

Better yet skip the winder and just wind the watch when you wear it again after some down time.

I get your point ...

but i'm just a college student. I don't need fancy hand-made-from-oak-tree kind of winder. Doesn't all winder do its job?

I've seen some good ones on Ebay for less than $100. Be sure it will run off batteries because you do not want it plugged in one the kitchen in full view. Good luck.

Look into the dual and quad winders sold by Brookstone. The dual is $150, fully programmable, it works just fine, even without a Burl veneer. :)

I completely understand. May I ask why you want a winder? Is it just the one watch you have and you just dont wear it everyday? I have a triple winder I bought from a local ad for about $400 so nothing crazy and it seems to work just perfect... All I meant was I would get something in the $100+ range so you get something decent, there is no need to spend tons of $$$

My wife bought me a cheap one on eBay, broke after 2 months. She bought another cheap one to replace the broken one, it broke after 3 months. Long story short, unless you buy a good "expensive" watch winder, don't expect it to last. As with all things, you get what you pay for. Personally, can't get my head around paying several hundred dollars for a watch winder, so I just do without. I have no problem winding the watches before I ware them.

This doesn't help but....
You just missed a 1/2 off sale at Wolf Designs....

I think they still have some on sale in their "regular" sale section....

Does this look any good? Or should I rather go with Brookstone Single Watch Winder - it looks really good with only $99!

Without doubt you already have two of the best watch winders and what Rolex watches were designed for, they are called wrists. No Rolex oyster watch needs any mechanical devise to wind your watch. Except what you got attached to the best winder you already have and they are called fingers. Now they are a perfect design to wind and reset time date etc and they cost nothing.

I have a Wolf winder working well after two years. The negative to this winder is that you cannot adjust the TPD. It's fixed at 600. This is OK for a Rolex, (I have my Sub Date on it) but not for other watches requiring more turns. I also have a Brookstone double, about two months old. I have no idea about how long it will last, but it does have a 1 year warranty. I use it for 2 Seiko Monsters that can't be hand wound. So far it's working OK. I also have an Orbita Bellino which has been excellent in keeping my Rolex GMT C running accurately and an Orbita Sparta which can't be adjusted but keeps an inexpensive watch with an ETA 2824 movement running well.

I have both Wolf Design and Underwood winders. Depending upon where you are going to store them, you might want to hear how loud they are when they wind. One of my underwood winders has a slight "click" that I can hear while sleeping.

No such issues with the Wolf boxes.

Not that I don't like them just cannot see the point of them with any of the Rolex line up.Yes they are useful with watches with many complications but with a simple date complication not needed at all.And the only wear I want on any of my watches is natural wear while on my wrist and not sat in a box for hours days weeks or months.Watch winders are relatively new kids on the block, but just look at the millions of manual wind Rolex they got wound for decades without problems.Plus all the many many vintage auto Rolex they survived without the aid of any mechanical winder, the only winder you will ever need is your own wrist.

Actually for me it is the convenience...I have 4 Rolex that I wear routinely (Sometimes a week or two at a time and then change the timepiece) Anyways I just grab and go and they are for the most part right on time. Just easy I guess

You will be very happy with the WOLF winder, an excellent product at a very fair price IMO. Also the Brookstone I hear numerous good things about here on TRF but have never used one myself

Agree just purely a convenience but lets be honest how long does it take to wind and reset a watch no matter if you have 50 watches to choose from.Watch stopped no movement wear, on a winder movement is wearing all the time. And even on a winder you have still got to adjust the date certain months in the year.

How do you wind the Panerai on that winder? I was looking at that winder however, the winder does not turn 850tpd .. which Panerai watches need. (own a 164) ?
