DIY GMT Bezel Insert Change (finally!)

By God that was nerve wracking! I'm happy to tell you all the operation was a complete success. The knife blade actually came through a good few layers of masking tape that was wrapped around it, though no damage to the watch, and I have thoroughly checked for that. This is the only part of the operation that I'm uncomfortable with...I am trying to track down a plastic prybar for the next swap, no rush .
I'm Very happy!

Well done and I know what you mean by nerve wracking. Tried it afew months back with success, but I ended up changing back to the Pepsi as I like it the best.

Call me wimpy...I leave the change to my local professional.

Nicely done tho!

I switched from Coke to Pepsi after a few months of ownership and never looked back.

It was fiddly, aligning the click spring in the ratchet teeth probably took me the longest. The knife part just felt dodgy and wrong... not something I want to repeat.

Nicely done!

I did the exact same operation/swap as you on my 16710 last week. Took me about 10 minutes and it was easy cheazy.

I was very nervous doing it myself instead of an AD. But I am happy I did because it gave me an even deeper appreciation for piece of design marvel that is the Rolex GMT. All the pieces (bezel and insert) just snapped back into place. Really Cool.

Nicely put, I'm feeling that! Extremely well built.

The next Op will be changing the caseback to a clear one which I received from Germany last week. This Op will be left to the expert Mitchy who has the tools and a pressure tester.

Very nice. Another op I wouldn't mind in the future... I'm satiated for the moment though.. Don't get me started on something else!

I'm going to attempt this next week, I have a coke bezel coming and I am taking off the black one on my GMT II.

Maybe I'll just take it to my AD

Took me almost an hour to put a NATO strap on my GMT about 2 weeks ago

It is fiddly and not for everyone.. If you choose to attempt it yourself I'll take you through it as best I can if you get stuck with anything.

Once you have done it a few times it gets better, and you will wonder what all the fuss is over changing a insert well done that man.

Anyone know how to resize images so that hey stay relatively large and viewable without being too small? I'm on windows 7 now and I don't know how to do it without making them stamp sized! Also my camera doesn't seem to support the red colour properly and seems to display it as pinkish. Grrr! LOL!

Change it to 800 x 600 pixels and you should be ok.

That's about the best I can do. 800 by 600 is still waaaay too many kb. It's a phone camera. Need to get a decent camera with decent editing software I suppose

Yeah man. Apparently they are harder to comeby lately. Best to get hold of some ASAP even if you wait a year or so before having one put in. Tried to get some from the place I bought the watch from but they insisted on taking my watch away for a week to do the job, and of course I wouldn't be able to see how they performed this secret trick. Pah! Luckily I found an AD who hadn't heard about this process and they just looked at me like I had just been let out of my mental institution to buy a pizza.

I use IrfanView to edit my pics and it's a free download.
Pics taken with iPhone don't need to be resized, they get uploaded straight to photobucket.

once you've loaded your photos onto Photobucket, you can change the size right on the site.
