First rolex!

Hey Guys!

I finally got my first rolex.

U-Serial GMT Pepsi Bezel.

One quick question, I noticed when I set the time the rubber ring is not around anything.

Is this normal?

Thanks in advance!

Pics are coming

Congrats! Great choice! Not sure what you mean by rubber ring? Are you refering to the rubber gasket on the crown stem?

That's exactly what I am talking about.

Also, does anyone know how to set the GMT part?
Every time I pull the crown out all the way it moves the minute hand while the hour and GMT hands move simultaneously.

If the rubber gasket is freely moving, it is either damaged or out of place, and I'd get it checked right away. There are 2 other gaskets further in, so you should be ok unless you go diving.
There's an intermediate stop between all the way in and all the way out, that will move the GMT hand.

Congratulation!
Did your watch came with the manual. It's a little hard the first time, same problem I had when I own an explorer II.
But
I'm sure the expert will show up soon and direct you to the right link.

So, here is what I see;
Unscrew crown = move freely - hand wind?
1st pull = date change
2nd pull = minute hand moves while GMT hand and hour hand move with it.

Am I missing something?!

I don''t think that the old GMT (with the twinlock crown) has the visible rubber o-ring when the crown is unscrewed. The visible o-ring is only found on the triplock crown, as found on the Submariner.

No manual

I would love to have one, but cannot find one online.

WHEW!

That makes sense.

So, nothing to worry about then.
This watch was made in 1999

This is a GMT Master (NOT a GMT Master II). Correct me if I am wrong, but I do not believe that the original GMT Master has the Quickset hour hand. The 24 hour hand is permanently locked to the same timezone as the 12 hour hand and all time zone calculations are made on the bezel.

So, this watch is as it should be then?

I get somewhat worried when buying high end watches online as I fear the dud (fake)

one last question before I allow my patience back;

This watch does both hand wind and auto wind?

When the crown is just free of the screw threads you can manually wind it. 40 full turns will fully wind the watch. The watch has an automatic movement with a rotor that will keep it wound as long as you keep wearing it.

Perhaps next time, do a little bit more research before you spend that kind of money?

Time to get out there and start enjoying your new watch!

Thanks!

I can feel it already.

Luckily I have a AD up the street from work.

Gotta go get one link removed during my lunch break and I will be VERY happy about it.

You're correct on both points. I can't see the pics, so I didn't know it was a master (not master II).

You know I caught the bug.

This is my first, one a decade I will assume.

I am currently 25 years old, so before I hit 35 I will have a YM.

Never responded to this comment;

Yes, more research may have been needed.
But, I was on the market for a Submariner, or a GMT.
One became available at my price range and I didn't have enough time to do research and seal the deal.

...But, I am very happy with my purchase now

How can this GMT have its GMT hand moved?

Mine doesn't move independently.

Would an AD have to do it?

It doesn't move independently. It's an older GMT.

Yes, that is my question.

When my hour is at 12, the GMT hand is at 6 - directly opposite.

So, how would this picture not have the same thing?
