I've heard about his in other threads and forums. If so, I think that would be awesome. I still won't be able to afford one, but this might be ALS's first foray into a Ti cased watch?

Still waiting on my Steel to arrive after putting in a confirmed order before the pandemic started. So, I suppose Titanium will arrive in 2030.

I'm not a huge fan of the watch, but I must say the titanium version with ice blue dial (looks grey-blue to me) is an improvement. Starting to grow on me.

Probably another one of the: Buy three tourbillons and we'll put in a confirmed order for you (just like the Zeitwerk Lumen).

ALS playing very hard to get. You can't get the blue SS or grey TIT unless you're already a very well established client, and if you want the WG model you need to wait years.
I wonder how far they can stretch this. As soon as flippers stop buying and crypto millionaire stop paying premiums, what clientele base left do they have? I myself remember which companies started playing hard to get and will not buy their offerings once the hype fades. |

Lange's current strategy is this: Anyone who has the money can walk in off the street and purchase just about any Lange -- way over 90% of their models. No prior history is required, though you may have to wait several months for the watch to be manufactured and to arrive. Lange also offers a very small number of models, such as the steel Odysseus Datomatic and now the titanium (LE of 250) version -- literally just a handful of Lange's models -- only to existing customers who have spent a lot of money (mostly at the boutiques). I'm curious about suggested other approaches. I'm not defending Lange's current approach. I understand the strategy, and it makes sense to me, but I don't have strong feelings about it either way. And I do think Lange would be smart to offer the steel Odysseus Datomatic (which is not a limited edition piece) to anyone who wants it in the future, once existing demand among loyal/repeat customers declines. |

As of 6am EDT all spoken for already. I’m thinking Lange does allocation before release on these limited pieces.

The issue with being ultra exclusive and catering to VVIPs only is that once they find something new, you are left with little clientele. I was invited to their new boutique in Geneva and talked with the manager. Indeed they make very few watches and most of them are on the high range of $$$. But the issue I have with the ALS-O is you can’t get on a list unless you first spend tons of cash. That’s the same as other brands, but this specific model is so out of there you are definitely left with either a full discrepant catalogue to pick from, or just the even more pricey and less interesting WG variant. When you go to AP you face a similar issue. RO has no alternatives in the catalogue; so it AP tells me I need to buy something, I won’t because nothing is interesting. Rolex meanwhile, has tons of interesting models. Can’t get the Daytona? No worries I can buy a submariner instead. Cant get the sub? Day date it is. So people with ample money but also ample responsibilities come to you, you bounce them off, why should they be interested in the brand anymore. You lose this clientele and enter an echo chamber of VVIPs who could get bored and just stop buying your stuff. Solution to this is simply to open the list, which will become gigantic but so be it, and give some ALS-O to people after a bit. Sure you wait 3 years but you know what, you’re lucky this year and you get one. Also stop producing all these entry level dress watches. It’s the era of sports models. Just like AP should just churn out ROs and try to come up with a worthy opponent, ALS should update its catalogue a bit. I have the same issue with VC. The new 222 is good but a bit of a farce, yet it’s a new watch that fits the brand and improves upon the same old overpriced watch that looks like a watch with a dead animal skin bracelet. |

Love the look, but pricing on this one does seem like a little bit of a money grab from Lange. I'm sure these will go way over retail on secondary market anyway so Lange is well within their rights to price this about as high as they want, but just compared to the SS and white gold versions, the price seems a bit inflated.

All 250 were pre-allocated by Germany HQ. So they knew who was getting one before release.
Hardly a new model release. They want you to visit the boutique for this? |
