Some measurements of 124270 Explorer

Some people asked me about some specific measurements of the new 2021 Explorer 124270, (thickness etc. ), so I thought I make some measurements and post them here.

Hope this helps.

I thought I add a couple of comparison pictures between 36 mm Explorer and my wife’s 31mm DateJust with diamond bezel.

When aligned per bottom of the log, you can see a big difference in overall size between the mid sized ladies watch and this Explorer. When aligned center to center, the difference is less obvious.

Wish the manufacturers would at least give us the long dimension lug tip - lug tip.

Thanks. I just added two more pictures to the original post comparing the Explorer with my wife’s 31 mm DateJust.

Very helpful. Dispels the idea of it being too thick.

Great job... thanks for the time and trouble doing the measuring and posting.
I’m really liking this new one. I had the 114270 years ago, and regret letting it go.

It is. I mean there is absolutely no denying that. It is 36mm!!!

It is a small watch, especially relative to the sub, sea dweller, sky dweller, DJ41, Explorer 2.... list goes on and on ...

No one should be surprised that this is a smallish kind of a watch.

It definitely will not be for everyone.

Honestly it might even be slimmer than my measurement. I didn’t want to push the caliper too tight on the Crystal and back case.

Absolutely. This should help some folks decide ( relative to what they like ) whether they should pursue acquiring this watch or not.

Ok, even better, here is the comparison between my 16710, the classic 5 digit 40 mm Pepsi , and the 124270 Explorer:

One is aligned at the bottom log, one is aligned center to center.

Thanks for sharing OP

This pretty much confirmed my hypothesis that the 12x Explorer has improved proportions and presence.

Gonna trade in my 114270 and enjoy the upgrade.

It truly is nicely proportioned. While I owned the Explorer MK1 I kept seeing posts by the 36mm owners taking about proportions of the original and I always wondered what they were talking about. Seeing this in person ( and now having it on) I can see their point, and I can see why Rolex rolling it back to 36 again.

Just requires a mental adjustment of going form 40+ sizes as dailies and what not to a 36 mm.

Nice pics...thanks.
How about weight? Can you stick on a grain scale and give us the physical weight of the 124270??

How many links in total did it come with?

Mine is only around 12 links and removed 3 links.

One major difference I notice is the weight. Mine is 100g on my scale. It’s very very light weight and wears fantastic.

Dial on the 124270 is exactly 30mm just like the Sub and Explorer. The size difference is all in the case and bezel.

Finally, someone mentions the weight.... but 100g?....head AND bracelet??...I cant see that that’s possible. My 114270 is like 103g with the old stamped clasp and hollow center links.

I figured the 124270 would weigh in at 115-120g

Can the new movement be that much lighter? If so, that’s incredible.
Can someone confirm this?

I get 114g. 16710 at 124 by comparison.

Thanks for sharing these with us Faz, great detail

I’m confused though... didn’t you mean to say “your wife’s Explorer”?
