Almost pulled trigger (but decided to keep)

Patek content

Given market volatility (possible continued weakness) and the fact that I never wear it, I almost took my Patek 5167A to be consigned this weekend. But when I got it out and put it on one last time, it sort of spoke to me again and I decided not to part with it (yet).

Anyone feeling like that? Especially on the Aquanauts?

At one point I thought about selling mine. Now it’s my fav watch in my collection and don’t really wear anything else. Recently got a 5726 on strap and prefer the 5167 over that for a rubber strap watch since it’s thinner and more comfy.

Awesome I’ve been on fence about 5726A on bracelet.

Personally, my 5167R is the watch I wear the most. And when I had the 5167/1A it was the watch I wore the most. For my lifestyle I love the casual elegance. I do get the crazy market values, but in the end, I don't think you'll lose much if you decide to sell now or a little down the road. If you bought at or around MSRP, I don't see it getting anywhere near that level.

Good call. I think you would have regretted it. Don’t sell watches that you can’t replace easily unless you’re 100% certain that it needs to go.

Having the same thoughts to sell my 5167A to finance the purchase of the new 5320G.
My Rolex explorer 36mm has replaced my aquanaut as daily wear

Thanks everyone. I wonder if I should hold the 5167 or try to roll it for a 5164?

i've thought about doing this as well. Tried on a friends 5164R and it felt like a completely different watch. Not in a bad way (of course), just not as much of an easy daily wearer. Decided to stick my 5167. My wrist is about 6.75, may have been slightly too large for my wrist..

I agree they feel totally different. I have a 5164R and my buddy has a 5167A. Mine is definitely thicker and heavier. I like the weight of the gold and the busier dial. He loves steel three handers. Personal preference really, both are great. 5164R is much more scarce I would argue if you like unique watches.

Almost pulled trigger (but decided to keep)

It’s the 25th Anniversary of the Aquanaut…I believe there will be a delayed release in commemoration. Anytime this happens to a model it raises the proverbial tide for all of the boats (aquanauts) and pricing goes up….presuming value retention is the point, or an excuse to keep it and wear it being the greater goal!!!

If I didn't become so infatuated with the Nautilus line, this is what I would have done with my 5167a when I had it (instead of trading into 5712a)

I love the aquanaut comfort, legibility, and how it's still a bit under the radar to wear but for some reason didn't jell with how thin, light and "dainty" it felt (and I have smallish wrists too)

The 64 to me has the perfect amount of presence, size, thickness while still being very comfortable to wear still being ~40mm vs the 42mm for the chronos and is the aquanaut to have IMO. Felt more "solid" on the wrist when I tried it on!

YMMV!

Of all of my watches, my 5164a would be one of 2 that I would never sell unless I really needed the cash for something else. I have come to love rubber straps, so very versatile and easy to wear.

I have a 5167a and it ain't going anywhere. It's my 1st aquanaut and I am so fortunate to be allocated. Hence it's my lucky star!

Saw in the Rolex thread you have moved it for the 11x Smurf.

Yes this is true. I’m still thinking about it hoping I didn’t make a mistake. I think I’d rather get an annual calendar or Patek chrono.

Same here, 5164a will be the absolute last watch in my collection I would sell. Still puts a smile on my face every time I put in on.

I thought about my 5711R for a minute but like you decided I would rather have the watch than a great price.

Agree. I have 3 aquanauts in my collection but the 5167A is just so versatile and do it all that there is literally ZERO reason to sell it...

I think OP sold his 5167A for a WG blue bezel Submariner. Both equally good just different target audience.

Yes, I did. I almost went back the next day and re-bought it, but realized I would have been doing that just to hang on to it (but still not wear it often).

Aside from bad fit and not ever wearing it, the main driver of my decision was that I only recently bought the 5167A and paid top of market pricing (not retail). So, faced with holding it forever or cashing it out for something else that I would actually enjoy wearing, I made the decision to trade.

Had I acquired the 5167 at anything approaching retail, I would have hung on to it.

Makes sense if you paid a high premium. Watch market goes up and down. Get what you’ll wear and enjoy. As others have said, the 5164 is a sweet spot in the sport line up. Maybe pursue that someday.

I will get another Patek soon, probably a complication in platinum.

I think you made the right decision. Personally the WG blue bezel sub is the only Sub I wanted. And considering you paid top dollar for the 5167A, it’s good to pull out before further correction occurs.
