Which Deep Sea?
Got the call today, my AD has a new Cameron Deep Sea for me. I was kind of hoping for black, ha. Love them both, I'm going to go get it tomorrow, 200 miles round trip. Just wondering what people prefer. Not looking for advice so much as just curious. I'll end up with both as I have an 8.25 inch wrist and love the DS. My 22 year old son took my other one. Lucky kid I'm so nice of a dad!

I have the DSSD JC and it is a perfect watch. 44mm, substantial, and the blue to black dial make it one of my favorites.

Traditional guy here, I like the JC, but like the black dial more, also not a fan of the cyclops on a Sea Dweller, again traditionalist.

I prefer the 43mm Sea Dweller. Fits better on my wrist vs the JC, but the JC is still a great timepiece!

I mentioned it to my AD a week ago and he emailed me Monday that he had a DSSD D-Blue for me. Going to try it on tomorrow, may bring it home with me. Anyway, seems the “batch” shipment to ADs currently includes the DSSD.
Best of success and enjoy it! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

have the JC - like the JC dial more - probably because it has a theme (exploration, meaningful colors, etc.) - the JC dial is not too 'loud' - deep blue and black go well together

The gradient blue dial is what makes that reference IMHO.

Picked up my JC one month ago. The dial is mesmerizing and, for me, so much much more attractive then the "regular" Deepsea.

IMHO there is only one SD and thats the 16600,and even at that watches D/R it will never be used by man or even superman in water to its max depth. Not a huge fan of the DSSD in all its forms but if I had to choose it would be the J/C.

Congratulations OP. I'm waiting on a JC and have a hunch it will arrive soon (unless my Ti YM shows up first, yeah right!) The gradation of the JC is a thing of beauty.

I have the black dial and like the classic look. Having said that I would probably take a JC and trade my black since I have several other black dials in my collection including a sub date.
Congrats |

I have owned both the black dial and the JC dial. Both awesome but I traded my black dial for the JC dial. The JC is so unique and so beautiful that I frequently stare at it but everyone has their own taste.

Black for me.
I own both, and I find the D-Blue way too busy on my wrist - too much going on with the numerous scripts and an irritating color scheme. Don’t misunderstand me, the D-Blue looks sharp in the display cabinet - but once on the wrist it takes a hard left for me. In my mind this is a tool watch - which translates into the classic black dial. My two cents …

Agreed. Seeing one in person captured me. I have the 116660 black for daily wear, 136660 JC for special occasions. You will never regret it. JC!!!

My first Rolex was the black dial DeepSea. Loved it and the story behind the James Cameron dial is really great, but I got it for my achievements, not to celebrate someone else's.
With that said - If given the choice between the two, I would get the JC Dial. It truly is wonderfully done and the gradient from blue to black is done so well that it's like having an extra featured detail that you don't get with the black dial. |
