Loved that the tire deg is higher and leading to more stops. The strategizing will be more important this year vs a mostly one stopper in prior years.

Cars can follow flower which is great - you can follow and stay within DRS without destroying your tires

Merc stole points on this one

Loved seeing KMAG, Bottas and Guanyu in the points.

F1 did well this weekend

Every team is supplied with the same fuel pumps (supplied by an Italian company).

Andad 21 March 2022 07:58 PM

The safety car syndrome almost won another race.

The race directors did not learn from previous errors but at the end they made the gap to Hamilton and Russell look a bit more respectable otherwise they could both have been more than a minute behind.

Leclerc should have been enjoying a beer at a BBQ before second place went past the post.

Most of the drivers were going backwards at one second a lap even in the last laps before the SC.

Another F1 travesty.

But well done Leclerc.

Excluding Red Bull who had reliability issues the 3 bottom teams are all Merc powered so yes (aero issues aside) the other manufacturers have taken a large step forward. First time in the hybrid era Merc engine isn’t the dominant force.

Apparently the culprit to the RB retirements may be the new E-10 fuel characteristics.

I believe the decades long partnership with Shell and Ferrari has allowed the Ferrari power units to erase the horsepower deficit they had to MB and Honda PU's and the E-10 fuel could be the reason why.

I like the safety car rule that bunches up the cars again, it is after all about entertainment first and foremost. As long as all competitors know the rules/laws and they are applied correctly, nobody can have any complaints, even if sometimes it creates unjust results.

As long as the Race Director applies the SC Reg’s. correctly, and drivers comply, there can’t be an unjust result.

An unwelcome one, sure…but it’d be fair and safe when SC is deployed for an incident and then racing resumes per the Reg’s.

Anyone watch the end of the WEC race at Sebring earlier this month?

Lightning stopped the race and ultimately the clock ran out with cars under a Red Flag.

The RD made a final attempt at a restart with several laps and enough time to do some racing under green flag. But one more bolt caused the final stoppage.

Vettel still tests positive for Covid so he may not race this weekend either.

77T 25 March 2022 09:33 AM

I believe we had almost universal support for MAG returning to Haas.

While many thought Enzo FIT was a possible choice, don’t be disappointed - he will still race at the Saudi circuit.

According to a report from Front Office Sports, Formula 1 will be debuting a Las Vegas Grand Prix on Thanksgiving Weekend of 2023. It’s expected that an official announcement will be made in the coming weeks.

Ughh. I'm not that excited for another American race.

enjoythemusic 26 March 2022 02:52 AM

Well, if you're smart and for some reason do want to attend, reserve a hotel room now. Once the official announcement is made pricing will go up.

...perhaps, but it's BIG money...no matter how you look at it.
At least they can. Unlike here in Vancouver when the local neighborhood protested about putting on a CART race because it was too noisy and loud..over 3 (partial) days...of their lives..
So the city lost millions of $$ in revenues over the 3 day event to accommodate the few...!! :dummy:

I'm not adverse to where it's held, but yet another street circuit? Really? Can we see how this Miami race comes off first and then see. If I had to guess, F1 is realizing how many American F1 fans have been drawn in from the DTS series and wants to strike while the iron is hot.

Good point. More street circuits mean more specialized support positions like highlift/telehandler operators.

For example, anyone want a trackside seat for the Miami GP?

Got a few slots for people with experience in operating highlift/telehandlers.
-Must be experienced and certified.
-Must be able to communicate via radio effectively.
-Must be available to travel to Miami on Wednesday, May 4, 2022.

Days of work include Thursday, May 5 through Sunday, May 8, 2022. Selected applicants will be operating a highlift/telehandlers at the inaugural Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix.

PM me if you’re certified and interested.

BREAKING NEWS:

There has been a possible drone air strike at an oil refinery near the track in Saudi Arabia that is on fire. Details are slim right now, but FP2 looks like it may be delayed and entire weekend in jeopardy.

FP2 was completed. No mention of the explosion on the official F1 site (shocking). Only info is coming from other motorsport and legacy news sources.

For the avoidance of doubt, the Organizers delayed FP2 by 15 minutes to have an “all drivers” briefing about the missile strike.

Also, another briefing held at 10pm Jeddah time.

Just adding that note in case some didn’t click the links.
