Looking ahead, are F1 viewing figures going to tank?

last year. Didn't see these 2 of this year. |
According to Statistica, and I don’t know all the variables/reliability, the numbers have varied over the years. They didn’t post 2022 numbers but since the nadir in 2017 it seems variable with no particular correlation.

A better bar chart

If I see well, these list is based on TV viewers.
So if I'm right on this, then these figures means a serious raising number of viewers in sum, as in this case we should add the numbers of the streaming/online platform viewers too all of these figures. |
Seems weird to me that Kimi is at COTA in NASCAR race today…maybe not? :chuckle:
And Geunter Steiner was doing color for pre-race… Also have Jensen Button, Ricky Taylor and some road racing specialists… No track limits to speak of…git’er done boys. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |
And remember, rubbun' is racin' boys.

That Garage 56 Camero looks sweet. Should be interesting on how they/it fairs in LeMans.. |
Kimi was crashed out at the Glen, wasn't his fault, but it seemed like he enjoyed the experience. He ran as high as 4th today but it was a crashfest today at COTA and got shuffled back.
Looking forward to see how they go at Lemans |
Honeymoon period over at Mercedes?
Are the gloves finally off between the drivers at Mercedes? Hamilton has not won a race since 2021 and was soundly beaten by his first year teammate last year by a margin of 35 pts. Now he's lashed out at George Russell in the media.
George Russell rejects Lewis Hamilton’s claim he got ‘lucky’ with Saudi Arabia setup choice Connor McDonagh 30 Mar 2023 George Russell has hit back at Lewis Hamilton’s claim that he got ‘lucky’ with his setup choice during the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix weekend. Russell came away from Jeddah as the lead Mercedes driver, out-qualifying and out-racing his more experienced teammate. After the race, Hamilton blamed his setup choice, taking a swipe at Russell by claiming “he’s usually wrong”. The seven-time world champion said: “We work on that. There was like a 50-50 choice. I chose one way and he chose another. “More often than not, the way he went is the wrong one. But it just happened to work. "So I could only match his pace than be quicker this weekend. But I’ll work hard to make sure we are in a better place next time.” Speaking to the media on Thursday in Melbourne, Russell was asked about Hamilton’s post-race comments. Russell insisted that “luck” wasn’t a factor, pointing towards his detailed preparation ahead of the race weekend. “I don’t think there’s any luck in it at all,” Russell said. “It’s down to the preparation you put in before the event and the changes we made overnight. “I knew that was going to be the right direction with the work we did with the team and I believed it was going to be better than the setup Lewis opted for. I think everybody has different preferences. https://www.crash.net/f1/news/102306...-setup-choice |
The tension has been there since RUS began outperforming the potential of the car, including setups and strat.
Another slant on same ruckus in the press pen and sit downs. https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/a...OaPedPdw9.html Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |
when a former champion true colors begin showing thru...

(Said in humor, in a sarcastic voice) i keep saying HAM should have retired back in... but noooooo, he didn't listen to me. Now look at you. Just look at you now HAM.
GO ALONSO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
Had HAM retired after the famous "one lap race", he could have become a hero. Now, however, he seems to be proving that he was only able to be a world champion as long as he was in the best car and as long as his teammate was significantly less capable than him. Too bad about that.

The Official Formula One Thread!
So far, not impressed with EV response to remove cars - slow - F2 has had 2 R/F’s already and very little time on track for the 30min Practice session.
The last turn onto front straight (T14) has no room for error, two cars already spun due to 1/2 a tire onto grass verge. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...2612272d25.jpg For F1 lap speeds - now have 4 DRS Zones, incredibly faster laps than prior years. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |
Max P1 in FP1
Fernando P1 in FP2 George Russell believes Aston Martin will be quicker than normal in Australia given the advantages the AM has in medium speed corners, which are plenty at Melbourne Park. Should be a good qualifying session tonight! |
If I read well, for the future the FIA set up new rule to avoid the Alonso's like cases:
From now on to touch the car or pilot during serving a penalty will lead to another penalty. However if I understand well, that in such cases as the penalties can be summarized and served on the same time. This sounds interesting, as maybe this could mean too, that IF the team realises that they made a mistake, then they may serve the new penalty in the same pitstop. |

Something’s up methinks with PER.
Seemingly not as sharp… Interesting grid for race - won’t mention anything specific to avoid a spoiler for anyone awaiting their DVR Viewing. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |
Yes, very interesting grid and have a feeling we'll see two safety cars periods. When ALO passes HAM on track you know i'll be cheering :)
|
Very interesting grid mix. After watching FP3 live, it looked like Mercedes would be just inside the top 10. Clearly they were sandbagging because they've found incredible pace here in Albert Park. Can't wait for the race to see how this all unfolds!!

Well, ALO’s protégé won F3 flag to flag in an incident-punctuated feature race.
Maybe an auspicious omen for his F1 race. Interrupted with 2 SC’s - may also portend that for the F1 race. F2 coming up in about an hour on ESPN+ stream in US. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |
