Hey, Leo. I've got some pics of the finished landcaping today. I'll get more later - but here are a couple:

Tanyosho Pine, with peony at the base...

http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/d...n/DSC01598.jpg

Japanese Yew, and Japanese Red Maple for the shady, moist corner....

http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/d...n/DSC01597.jpg

A few coral bells and hostas, and a salvaged peony...

http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/d...n/DSC01596.jpg

The tall shaggy guys is the Weeping Tolleson's Juniper - we call it the Dr. Seuss Tree...

http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/d...n/DSC01595.jpg

My last photo of the NE corner didn't come out - the weeping blue atlas cedar is a very interesting specimen! Dave calls it the "Sputnik" tree... I'll try again this morning.

:cheers::cheers:

Lisa, I'm always kidding my wife about me trading her in on a new model or her trading me in for a box of chocolate!!! Now as for grandchildren, as far as I know I'm not a grandfather as of yet. But will enjoy the role when the day comes!!!

Fantasy home.... we're very pleased with our conventional dwelling for lot of reasons, but I am very drawn to the idea and can't get enough of pictures, articles, etc. on the subject. Architectural Digest had a few stories back when I was a subscriber - great stuff.

I'm now actually working on four barn conversions this very minute.

Fairly run of the mill, no9w and again we do something special.

I can't post any images publically due to client confidentiality but I can give you an example....

I did an 16th century friary...that was the job where I designed a sliding pool house which disappered into a timber housing.

I did a barn conversion where the main barn doors were replaced with toughened glass. The difference was that the glass was supported by a sub ground scissor lift which allowed the entire screen to slide automatically into the ground.

I've done multiple chapel conversions, including turning one into a bar/cocktail lounge and converting one for a British movie star.

I designed a pool house for a former agricultural project where it had accommodation above it. The staircase was "invisible" (toughened glass, perspex and monofillament) and extended right out over the pool itself.

I've done plenty of North USA style Log Cabins in varying sizes including a lodge which had an external deck at first floor with "Invisible" sections which extended over the paddocks and the stags below.

Mostly though, I do garage extensions to three bedroom houses:dummy::dummy::dummy:

Thank you, Jim! Seriously, not to brag but I even used my own eggs!:rofl: Take that, you oldster celebrities!:dummy::dummy:

Lisa, your landscaping looks wonderful and really compliments your house. I've always liked houses with a brick exterior. Your Japanese Maple(Acer palmatum) what variety is it? I planted a Weeping Norway Spruce in the back yard about 13 years ago and my neighbors have always called it a charlie Brown tree. To this day they still tease me about that tree!!! We had a new neighbor move next door last summer and one of the first things she talked about was what is wrong with that tree!!!!!

Hi, hope you don't mind me posting some shots of our house through the build. Just sorting out the planning has been a nightmare, Jim, I still need to get some drawings fixed up for the garage, interested?
The upside is that finally its starting to look really great and we have open fields all around us, even on a bad day the scenery is breathtaking. I'm laying the underfloor heating pipes through the lounge and garden room today. The excitement never ends.. I've enclosed a shot of the caravan (trailer) we were camped in for 18 months. My poor wife must really love me to put up with that. And a shot of my little helper (though he's much bigger now)

Lion 3 April 2009 10:39 PM

Wow, Mark, that house is really close to the road!!!

Jimbits76 3 April 2009 10:43 PM

Mark what is the annexe going to be used for?

Regarding the garage, pm me!

J

ob1 3 April 2009 10:45 PM

It is, but its a very quite country lane. During the day, you might only see a handful of cars and at the weekends and evenings you can hear nature! Out the back and over the road is open country side. Our nearest neighbours are about half a mile away both ways. When the chapel was first built in 1863, their was just a dirt track through here

Lion 3 April 2009 10:50 PM

Well, I would definitely put up a guardrail just the same!!!
Jim, I bicycle all the time in the country here and dwellings are never this close to the road!!!

ob1 3 April 2009 10:50 PM

The link is gonna be a garden room / conservatory/ have a jam room, is about 37sqm and the lump on the end is gonna be the lounge (about 40sqm). We have moved into the chapel part, and truth be told, we don't need the other 2 rooms. Its gonna be enormous when its done (200sqm downstairs and 150 upstairs, almost too big). Jim, Pm me your email and i'll send you over the plans and rough sketch for the garage

His 15 minutes of work are over this week. Now he's got some serious overtime to put in....I'd imagine it involves a case of Bud'.
