Hey Puffy,

Thanks a ton for this amazing thread and your past ones too, they've really solidified my desire to land a 5167. :dude:

Quick question, how does the tropical band wear in the summer? Do you find that it slips a little with perspiration? (I wear my watch pretty snug)

Thanks man! Regards, David

well Andres, now you've finally gone and done it... pushed me over the edge... :agree::twit::agree:

Great review and photos!

Soly20 20 February 2013 11:52 AM

Thanks for the great review. Stunning pieces indeed! I love the 5711.

subtona 20 February 2013 10:40 PM

Could you describe the difference between the two clasps?

Does 1 have a sturdier closed position vs the other?

Cheers:-)

very comfortable. stretches nicely as your wrist gets fatter. just make sure you don't cut the strap too tightly to being with

i've done a tutorial of how to cut the 5167 strap...

both clasps are great but the 5711 has a firmer lock

and yes arabic, not romans!

Great write up thanks, really considering one of these two pieces.

Can the Aquanaut be put on a leather strap? I am really not a fan of rubber despite being told how comfortable it is.

Yes, I've seen one on custom black croc and it's gorgeous!

Thanks I will keep that in mind as I watch the sales forum

Amazing thread Anders. Thank you for posting. Definitely brings thoughts about moving up from Rolex. You have great references there.

thomaspp 21 February 2013 04:15 AM

Very nice. Enjoyed this very much. Tks.

I acquired an Aquanaut and agree that the piece is slick and very enjoyable to wear. On the other hand if I had to to it again today, I think I'd go Naut. Best.

I have a 5711 but look forward to purchasing a 5167 in the future. I would love to see pictures of the the 5167 with steel bracelet if anyone has them.

Here you are. I had planned on purchasing the composite strap and buckle but am having trouble justifying the $1500+. Thinking of trying to source a used one if possible but I don't see that as a likely scenario. One of these days I'll have to bite the bullet :chuckle:

The bracelet is really superb on this watch. I was hoping to have a picture of the deployment clasp but no luck.

I'm on a quest for 'under the radar' watch that will complement my current collection. I have been frequenting PP and AP forums for inspiration. Looks like Aquanaut would fit this profile better especially on rubber.

Which one do you wear more? Does one fit better your lifestyle or do you just flip the coin in the morning and pick one of them?

I had Aquanaut on my wrist few months ago and it was very nice. I also had few AP ROOs, but they do not strike me as 'under the radar' watches. Perhaps ROC can fit this profile...

Your pictures certainly made me think a lot. Thanks for posting them.

AWESOME AWESOME POST!!! Just the kind of comparison I needed....with plenty of pics of excellent quality!! Thank you:)

Andad 21 February 2013 05:16 PM

Nice write up Puffs but I don't see a big tasty roman numerals dial on the 5167.

to choose between these two sports pateks is a hard decision as they're quite different in look & feel and also how they wear

the 5167 is featherlight and flies under the radar so it's great for meetings or going down the pub

the 5711's bracelet is as soft as mouse's ear, it has to be expereinced to be believed. it is so beautifully designed that it does catch some people's attention which i don't like so it's more of an around the house and weekend watch. i do wear it in the office with a white shirt and it looks killer :drul:

a young girl on my team now aspires to own a patek one day and she loathes rolex, thanks to these two :chuckle:

I am sure I would not regret owing a Patek, it is the regret of what I have to give up to get it :crying:

I am torn between a diverse collection of pieces that I like versus a smaller collection of pieces that I love. :banghead:

The bane of a WIS I guess

it will hurt a little to begin with but trust me, once that PP slips on the wrist you know you've done the right thing

i sold all the onces i didn't wear reguarly, the ones i'd just bought because i could and they had no real value to me as such

kept the beautiful vintage rolexes and also sentimentally valued watches

I did something like that last year. I already had a PP Aquanaut but I got rid of my 2 remaining Rolex watches for a 15300 RO. It was a tough decision but I do not regret it. My only problem now is that I do not have a "beater" watch that I'm not worried about scratching up. Some day I would like to pick up the AP Bumblebee and throw on the rubber strap to use as my beater since the FC, ceramic bezel, and clasp are pretty scratch resistant, or so I am told.

Hopefully my use of the term beater w/ the BB doesn't offend anyone :dummy:. My definition of beater definitely doesn't mean junker, just one that I could wear during almost any activity w/ out hesitation.

Cheers!

Ask yourself just one question.

If you don't love them, then what's the point of having them?

Do yourself a favor:

Get the one's you'll love to own.

Good advice, thanks. I have already gone through one flipping phase. I do love the watches I own and was careful when I chose them.

I simply look at the number of pieces I own and even with a good rotation some of them are not getting the wrist time they deserve. I wear all of them, that is the reason for the hesitation. As it is I would have to trade/sell 5 or 6 of my pieces for a 5711. It is a tough decision for me to make. :banghead:

My other quandry is that I have also been considering trading my 14060 to a trusted seller for a new 114060 with the new bracelet and ceramic bezel. If I do this it removes a piece to trade plus cash towards a Patek. Either way the 14060 needs to be part of the deal.

Perhaps I should just continue to save for a Patek.

S`` 22 February 2013 11:01 PM

I wouldn't trade 5 to 6 pieces just for one patek... I would rather pain it out by saving
