Both my 5711 got 324 movement. So far, I did not spotted any problem. This thread had me wear my 5711 more last few weeks!
|
I have never had this problem with any of my Patek's that were fitted with the 324 movement

is your 5711 a 324 or 315? |

Good point. He could turn the stem counter clockwise just a tad, and that would stop the movement. But it does appear that my intial advise was misguided anyway, and that this situation does occur. My understanding is that a slight tap will place the date where it needs to be, and that because this happens that it won't necessarily hurt anything if left to run like this. I have two watches with the 324 movement and have yet to experience this issue. |
How can this be just nonchalantly explained to be, 'normal' ?
You see, this is why I don't get the Patek love... I mean, I like Patek as a brand, and it's history indeed. But for the prices, and my experience/research, 1) they shouldn't be priced so high and because 2) they really aren't that reliable and or greatly finished.. No way bashing your pieces, as i'm a fellow Patek owner (or was) selling my 5712. |

I recently had a similar issue with mine. I scrolled through the date cycle (1...2.....3,,,,4.... Etc) until I had run through the equivalent of a couple months, and then set it to the correct date. I never had the issue again.
Not sure if it will work for you, but may be worth a shot before sending it off to Patek. Good luck! |

To clarify...
I had a date misalignment issue on my cal 324 but this was where is was consistently clipping off the top of the numerals. A tap wouldn't move it, it was as if the date ring itself was misaligned.
I sent it back to Patek a couple of times and finally dealt with a watchmaker at an authorised service centre who confirmed that it was an issue on some movements and there was a service update provided by Geneva which detailed how to resolve it. Since then it's been working perfectly and aligns nicely every time. I think it is a small issue that's made far worse by the design decision to use an extremely tightly framed date window. This doesn't allow much play in the wheels before the date shows as being out of alignment with the top of bottom of the window. However, your issue of the date sticking sounds more serious. Definately get it sorted under warranty. I'm very happy with my watch now and the watchmaker I dealt with was very enthusiastic about the many small improvements made to the 324 over the previous 315 calibre. The audible noise on the rotor for example is caused by the zirconium bearings.. good to know. |
Wow...This is makng me think twice on my next in line purchase. Hopefully Patek confirms a fix in the near future.

Just got my 5711 from the service center here in Manila. They observe it for a week but the misalignement did not occur during that period.
|
You should took some photo when it occur.
Keep it running, don't let it stop. |

Patek must have made it a priority  |
I actually saw the update printed out...
If you have this issue then insist on getting is fixed. I briefly saw a printout of the actual service update which showed what the problem was and the suggested solution.
A quick google image search of Pateks with a 324 such as the 5711 and the 5296 will instantly show you that many have the date cut off at the top. Why Patek chose a date window and wheel font that allowed absolutely no deviation from perfect alignment is beyond my understanding. A slightly smaller font and the normal slight variation due to play in the date wheel chain would not be noticable. Anyway I can say that now it's fixed I'm very happy with the watch. Quote:

I don't see any "priority" in it.:chuckle: |
Is this fix worth doing? Mine has gotten stuck a handful of times. Always around the 20th of the month (between 17th and 23rd). Happened again last night while changing over to the 17th.
Just don't want to send the watch in for several weeks if it's not such a big deal and if it's no harm to the movement. Rather get it done same time as the first service. Or should it be sent in asap? |
Better have it fixed under warantee.

Noticed some photos of the caliber 324 have the numbers "324/390" just below the movement seriel number. Some others have "324/303" and some (including mine) has just "324".
Could the difference have something to do with the update to the sticky date issue? Anyone know the differences between them please and which is the latest version? |
