the great thing about the Nautius and 5711, looks good in a Tux and can ALSO take a beating!

I was thinking this, but the date window made me think twice. Thank you!

How about one of these? Works with a suit as well as a sport coat and jeans.

Some good ideas here so far. Already have a 5711 and don't think I could use that as a dress watch. Also want a precious metal and the 5711R isn't for me.

Two others that I liked were these-

They can be had for similar prices to others on the list

busytimmy 1 June 2016 07:44 PM

5227 or Lange 1815 imo

JLC makes some nice looking watches with solid movements for sure.

For me personally, if they were offered at a similar price point as a Patek, I would choose the Patek over a JLC. However if you can get one of the JLCs pictured at a significant discount, then it would make for a more interesting option.

Or this one - a relative bargain

For Patek, the 5205R, I also like the Lange 1 and RL, and the Jacquet Droz PJ was recommending are very stellar too, I have a soft spot for the JD since I saw at auction a lovely antique musical box in gilt and purple enamel.

The trend away from "bigger is better" is better!

Hallelulia! I am sick to death of wrist-clocks, and I was a little concerned to learn that St. Francois-Paul of Journe has recently moved to 40/42 from 38/40. Bad move, IMO. Let's have proper-sized watches.

Lots of beautiful options available but I also voted for the VC. The 5227R is lovely, too.

I tried this on a few weeks ago and really loved it. :lv:

Fantastic in virtually every respect, although the lack of a seconds hand might bother some.

Hard to beat this one though for quality and price.

Voutilainen Vingt 8, around 60-70K euros in WG without any special customization, 7K more if PT, but so much more exclusive and awesome than any PP or VC, costs more but so much nicer IMHO

One example here:
http://www.voutilainen.ch/site/the-w...t-8/details-2/

But if a Patek, I would say a 5711, yeah I know not the usual definition for a dress watch but for me it is a sporty dress watch, looks awesome whatever you're wearing, suit or shorts, and the only 3 hander from PP that I would like to own...

Lapince, I'd have to say your first recommendation is out there!

As for the 5711, I couldn't agree more.

Hollister 3 June 2016 07:51 AM

The 5711 is NOT a dress watch! It's a serious diver for the man of action.

topcat30093 3 June 2016 08:43 AM

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Sorry, I have to disagree with you.
The 5711 maybe classed as a sports watch, but imo it is not qualified to be called a divers watch.
Though not as important now, as most divers wear a dive computer. But any divers watch, worth its salt must have a graduated anti clockwise rotating bezel, which can be used to measure the length of a dive.
And for that reason it is not a dive watch.

Couldn't agree with you more Tony. A nice sports watch for sure, but a serious dive watch? Not even close.
