It is funny to be informed by the boutique that buying a Lange 1 or Up/Down does not qualify for the waiting list for the S.S ODYSSEUS. So what is the reason to buy at retail price from the boutique instead of from the grey market?

I heard the piece to be shown in July is from the Zeitwerk Family.

There will be another LE in October apparently that is probably from 1815 or Saxonia families since the Lange 1 just had the 30th Anniversary.

AP and Patek do the same thing with their Jumbo and Nautilus, but they use the words “journey” and “collection diversity” to make it more palatable. Seems like Lange is just more blunt and straightforward about it?

Yup, this is what I find strange. They receive so much backlash for outright "bundling", but yet people seem to forget even worst practices from Rolex Patek ADs especially with jewellery. Although I have not much love for the Odysseus, I got an email from Lange confirming I am on the list after making another purchase. I don't think AP or Patek AD will give a written confirmation for the model you are in the waiting list for.

To clarify, I didn't want to buy the Odysseus, but they offered it with a watch I was truly after so I just accepted to be on the list. It only comes in 2-3 years later anyway. It will probably retail for 50k or so + tax then.

It doesn't make sense to buy a Lange 1 to get an Odysseus in SS anyway. You will save more buying both grey. Anyway the premiums on the SS isn't much given the retail hike in the past years.

More Teutonic, perhaps!

I dang near bought a 1 Timezone in Tokyo last week. It was the previous version (the independent 24 hour circles and no DST indicator). It was in pristine condition for $29k. I think that watch new is pushing $60k. $29k can’t even get you a new base 1815 small seconds right now.

Lange might be my favorite brand but I would have to downsize my collection by multiples to own one. The new prices are ridiculous in my estimation, but for many of its clients, money is no object, so why not.

I didn’t have the time or inclination to go on a journey with Lange. There isn’t a boutique in my city anyway, and I was only interested in one model.

So I went grey, got a brand new SS Odysseus 2025 model for about 30% over retail.

The price difference was palatable, but more importantly a trusted grey dealer had the watch in hand.

Prices are still dropping and I could have saved had I waited. But I’ve had the watch for 6 months now and I have enjoyed wearing it. Dealing with a boutique would have put me on a 2-3 year path with other watches in the mix. No chance I would go down that road.

Back to the original topic of the thread and after the expected launch of the ZW Date RG 2 weeks ago there will be 2 new launches in September (and 2 more in October)!

I remember back in the day an AD tried to sell me a 1815 chrono for cost +$1000.

And that’s why Lange went the boutique route [emoji23]
