Crazy collaboration between Domino's and Rolex. The story behind is heartwarming too.
|
In this thread we've seen papers/cards marked Schlanderer & Sons Jewelry, an Ann Arbor, Michigan store. Maybe all the Dominoes logo watches are ordered thru that store ?

Wow, great thread! I've wanted to get corp watches made to celebrate exits, etc... but we aren't anywhere near big enough for Rolex or other large brands :(

It depends and if you have small to medium wrist size, the AK 34mm can be good size and does not appear too small on the wrist. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Just saw that Awad Watches listed an interesting "small square" circa 1994 with this clasp:

Awad Watches also claims this "Double Domino's" is original. It is from 2003 which does put it right around the time the logo transitioned from the dial to the bracelet. Interesting if this is in fact original:

Great post. I love the Domino's Rolex watches. There are a lot of folks that hate the watch because it "supposedly" demeans the Rolex brand to have a pizza chain on the watch. But a person has to be a success in life/work to afford a Rolex. These Domino's watches are the embodiment of success as the person that won one had to be a good enough manager to pull in a certain amount of sales for 4 or 5 consecutive weeks to get one.
I think your post is very informative. There is a slight error. The 114200 Air-King was given out as a Domino's watch until it was discontinued in 2014. The 2007-2012 114200 had the full Domino's logo on the case back and bracelet. The 2013-2014 Air-King had the logo you call simplified on it. That simplified logo was phased in in mid 2012 as Dominos dropped the pizza part to call themselves Domino's so they could sell other things besides pizza (like subs). Once the Air-King got retired at the end of 2014 the OP 36 got to be the sole Domino's watch. I just got my Domino's OP36 last week. I love the watch and it wears nice |

So the "simplified logo" 114200 should say "2012-2014" instead of "2008-2011" like it does currently. |
these things used to sell for $1000-1500 and noone wanted them. interesting watches, but considering you can get a 5500 for $2k and the last 5500 dominoes dial went for $5k, I think they're a bit overpriced. I remember passing on one when I was buying my first rolex, went with a manual wind non domino dial instead, didn't appreciate nearly as much lol

great post!

Cool post OP. 200K in pizza in a month is a ton of pizza sales. Those AKs were earned. Very interesting

Rob, powerfunk, thank you so much for putting this together! I'm a former awardee as a store manager of a 5500 series Domino's Air-King in 1988. At that time, the award was based on a $20k sales week. In perspective, only 30+/- reached those levels. And that was 1988 dollars. A few additions to your information. The 1980s 5500s did not have a Domino's Pizza logo on the backplate. Only the awardee's 3 initials and Monohans initials, TSM, on the bottom. I still have my box and all the papers. The warranty card from Schanderer & Sons is listed, but NOT Dominos under Purchaser.
Mine was stolen in a burglary in 2005. I'm now on a search to replace it with a 5500 series. |

Wow - great story, especially since you gave the watches to the stores that made it happen. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
126000 is already on the market. This one is listed for 8k on eBay:

Oh boy! This is a great write up. I remember reading about a few "recherché" Zephyr 1009 from the mid 60s. They bore the Domino's Pizza logo_very neat.
I wonder if the were sample watches or if they made it to domino's. In the 60s thru the mid 80s many u.s. and foreign companies had their logos on Rolrx dials> I remember seeing a lot of gasoline related logos. |

Also I just stumbled across this ladies' Domino's Rolex (176200) with the Domino's logo on the upper part of the bracelet: https://i.imgur.com/3pdTQLbh.png |

Apparently Rolex has ended their relationship with Domino's after 4 decades. Future Domino's award watches will be Omegas. Truly the end of an era!

These are so unique and a great collector's item. What a great collab

Was a great collab.

I'm glad this thread was bumped up.
It gives me a chance to say something about Domino's leadership starting this recognition program. It motivated many people in the long-term by using the Rolex crown for achievement versus short-term cash bonuses (which of course are nice). Anyway, sorry that current leadership has lost the vision by going to Omega. I like Omega but they are not Rolex as a motivator for high achievers. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |
