LOL, the thought crossed my mind ... but I'm actually across the country for work when my son is due, so I'm putting a contigency in place to get home in time.

Baby's are always born on time, on target, right?...LMAO.

Babies born on time? That's your first fairy tale - of many you'll soon have memorized!

On time....ha ha ha ha; on target? Well, you hit the target:rofl: so that part is easy.

LOL - that's pretty much what my wife said. And so I've booked the return flight from out west for a week before she's due in the perhaps naive hope that I'll get there in time.

I'm getting the sense that I am being a wee bit too optimistic in my expectations regarding the on-time delivery of my son? Okay, rhetorical question, I know. Luckily I'm only 4 hours flight time away (with a 2 hour drive at each end), so I'm sure it'll all work out in the end.

My wife is probably going to kill me if I miss the birth of our first kid, right?

Dang ... dead man walking.

Like I always say to my CO when people come up with dumb ideas: "What could possibly go wrong?"

The one guarantee you have is that there's no guarantee. They come when they want........and where they want.

I'm guessing that you're in a "no choice" situation and considering that she has the same career, I imagine she's pretty realistic about the possibility of you not being there. No doubt she'd be dreadfully disappointed......but.....kill ya? Nahh...she'll want you around so there's someone to blame for the sleepless nights.:rofl:

No, a wee bit of exageration on my part . We've both been in the Army a long time and we both know that there are things outside of our control that we simply have to accept. There are trade-offs in any career, and being a soldier is no different in that regard, just different trade-offs, as you know from your father's time in the military. Luckily I have a boss who is really good about family coming first wherever possible, so I'm confident that I'll get home for the actual birth.

What makes me a bit sad is that I'm going to miss a good part of the wee lad's first year, but between internet videos, pictures and satellite video conferencing, I'll be able to see some of the little guy's growing up. And I have a bit of time before heading overseas, which is also great.

I posted here a long time ago that we hired a midwife and I actually delivered our third child Sydney. The other three were delivered in a more normal fashion. Point being is that during the birthing of all of our childern the wife could have cared less if I was there; if I was helping; if I was delivering; or if I sold tickets and people were watching. In all cases she just wanted the deal done and finished. Whew, took me a while to make this point; what will happen will happen and she will love you no matter the circumstances. Do not sweat the details as you will have a lifetime to make things right with you, the wife, and the child.

Absolutely. Luckily my wife is one of the most practical and level-headed people that I've ever met. She does not get overly excited about the little stuff, and more importantly realizes that most things in life are the little stuff. Makes for a nice sense of equilibrium.

And she is really ready to have the lad out now! All of the measurements are saying that he's going to be a healthy-sized boy.

Hey Joey! Relax...we're around...........don't know about the other gals but I've just been busy like crazy. Tonight (in about 40 min) my youngest son and his fiancee are coming by to have dinner and discuss their wedding plans. Chances are slim that I'll make it back here until much later this evening....if at all....but you could keep yourself busy trying to sharpen your wit.:rofl::dummy::justkiddi

Hey, you know the old joke of...how many Joeys does it take to change a light bulb. One...Joey holds the light bulb and the world revolves around him.:dummy: Have a good dinner and let us know what was the main course. Wedding plans. All I can say is that you and Al are good sports of the best kind. I read your note. I know you will be discussing THEIR wedding plans.:bartmoon:

I'm here, I'm here. Joe, is it important to you that we all know you had a shower this morning? Was this some kind of sick and sleazy invitation on your part? And if it was, you didn't bother to tell us about it until nearly 4pm?:dummy::dummy:

I've been moseying around the other threads some and was intrigued with Norm's question about Rolex collecting and fidelity. Or hobbies and fidelity. I had a pretty lengthy answer written out, then decided to crumple the paper and move on. Short answer is yes, I do think people who have hobbies and interests are more grounded and happier with themselves and therefore less likely to seek out clandestine relationships. Then I started thinking of that bimbo blonde nurse and decided ANYONE can cheat, no matter the personality type.

Bleah. Marriage shmarriage. 22 years next month.

Joe, I'm glad to hear you have showered. Especially considering that we both occupy the same southern region of the US!

It's been hectic here, but I need to check in here more often... :dummy:

Lisa 3 April 2008 11:45 PM

Good morning, everyone. Having my third cup of coffee. YEAAAHHHHHHH

We have decided to hire a woman to come every two weeks to clean this place, which is wonderful - however, I have to bust my can getting the clutter put away so she actually can get to the surfaces to clean - the amount of dust this house accumulates is astonishing. That's okay; I need the motivation. So what am I doing here!? She's coming in three hours! All of my husband's junk is going into his closet. When that fills up I'll head to the basement. When that fills up.... well, hmm. Maybe his mother's house! She's always loved to pick up after him in the past....:twit:

There's a discussion about Bo's absence the past day or so, but I wonder also about someone else: Aykun from Istanbul? He got a new job, last I heard, and since then I haven't seen any posts.

Downing is another guy who hasn't posted in a long time.

Hmm. Could it be that these people actually have a life?

Tools 4 April 2008 12:54 AM

Yep..This is exactly what Pam does.

She spends a couple of hours cleaning the house so the houskeeper doesn't think we are hoplessley slobbish (is that a word?), and can then have a clean house to clean...

I've asked her several times why do you clean the house for the houscleaner.....All I get is "the look"...

Here's what I have learned about picking up for the housekeeper, Larry. She doesn't pick up after us and organize our stuff. That would be a completely different kind of job. After all, she wouldn't know which kid's toys are which, and she wouldn't know where to put my husband's junk. This may sound weird, but I think out of respect to her (and really, self-respect!) I ought to have the floors and countertops clear so she can dust, wipe, vacuum and scrub. I'd rather pay her to do that than pay her to move stacks of mail and toys around. It keeps me motivated not to let the clutter get too out of hand between her visits.

Of course, if there was even one other person in our household who would pick up after themselves that would help. But that's the same old rant and no need to resurrect it here!

Oh, and by the way - yes, I don't want her to think we're hopelessly slobbish.:chuckle:

That does make sense. At the very least, it might be motivation to keep the house clutter-free (something we struggle with here as well). It's amazing the amount of paperwork two little children lug home from school everyday!
