I do mine finger-tight. Important not to overcrank the screw-down.

my understanding is that it is engineered so it is finger tight and the crown will be perfectly facing up toward the face:thumbsup:

Only with luck. The final position of the crown is completely arbitrary.:read:

I've been lucky a few times but it only matters during photo shoots. Other than that, I never think about it.

There are those tasty Tudors again!!

The crown on my sub was perfectly up the other day - before I wound it :thumbsdow

I agree, it's dependent on what finger tight is to the indivual. Best to ensure that it is finger tight than getting a "perfect" position I would have thought.

AWATCH 24 December 2009 01:20 AM

finger tight.

When the crown stops turning......STOP!! :read: You don't need to add on excess torque because you will damage the seals by over-compressing them.

The watch will still be 100% waterproof with just a light closure without using too much strength on the crown once it's screwed in.

Allow me to save JJ the trouble.... YA TOSSER! :chuckle:

The way I do it is to screw it down with my thumb and index finger with a somewhat light grip until the crown stops and the fingers slip over it. I then use the finger nails of the thumb and index finger to tighten it just a hair, maybe the amount of one tooth on the crown . . . what is that maybe 1/24th of a turn?

Anyway, here it is shortly after I got it back from the RSC in PA back in early November with my tightening technique applied. I could easily get the crown to "line up" vertically, but it's tight enough where it is. I figure over the years the seal will compress so that in about 2 or 3 years the crown will be just right. Yeah, that's when I'll put in under a glass dome and never wear or touch it again in order to save the perfect alignment . . . not.
