Maintenance milestones for a SubC
 

I've searched for "submariner maintenance" and "when to service a submariner" and found that most general advice is summed up as follows:

1. You should ideally plan on servicing a Rolex every 5 years. It can go longer (maybe even WAY longer), but why risk it?
2. Use an RSC, or a qualified alternative (I read Vanessa's posts and was very impressed)
3. Always take the watch in if you see something seriously "wrong" with its performance

All that said, my personality is one that requires that I change the oil in my car regularly, rotate the tires, etc...which makes me wonder if my SubC should have its water resistance checked, and seals checked more than once every 5 years.

Are there period maintenance checks that should be done on a watch leading up to the 5 year service check?

5 years is fine

Have it water tested every other year till service it's a simple inexpensive procedure for peace of mind. Rikki

x2 i always tell people every year they should pressure test your watch especially if you wear it in water:thumbsup:

Is pressure testing something that should be performed by an RSC? Or can this be done by a reputable watch repair shop? I'm assuming in the case of the latter an important factor may be making sure authentic Rolex parts are used if any replacement is necessary.

If you use a Rolex Parts account holding CW21 watchmaker we are required to have and use the proper parts and testing equipment. I use a Roxar Natator water tester capable of testing down to 4200 feet and Sigma dry tester down to 350 feet. There are no machines available to test the DeepSea other than at Rolex. Plus if there were the price would be astronomical. So in short to sum up in a slightly shorter version go with a CW21 watchmaker they are the only ones who can have a Rolex parts account. Rikki

Thanks again for your input. I'm looking up CW21 authorized watchmakers in my area.

If you can't find someone local, send the watch to Rikki. He serviced my ExpII and it came back in fine shape. Pleasure to do business with.
