1st Pam 111 or 312
Hi, I am currently wearing a DSSD and considering mine 1st PAM.
I would like to seek advices on the pros and cons on 111 and 312. how about in terms of stripe changing, is it easy? Or you guys have any model to recommend, my budget is less than 8k. |
Easy. 312 and strap changes are a toothpick away vs fooling with screws/threads.
|
Both good choices. Different cases, different functions.
Do you want a date function? I went with the 111. On my skinny wrists it worked better IMO. Mike brings up a good point. The 312 is much easier for strap changes. I wish they would make a 111 with quick release pins. http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...t/2ad9c521.jpg |
Since you sport a DSSD you shouldn't have an issue with the 1950s case, so, 312 is a great choice. I have the quick change system on my 164 and changing straps is a breeze.
 |
Both incredible but different in their appearance. I think I prefer the balance of the 111 but I like the auto function of the 312. Plus the strap change makes a big difference too.
|
Hard choice. Probably the 312 between those two. Either are great though.
|
I prefer the non-1950 case and love bases. I'd also consider 000, 112, 176, etc
|
312, too thick for me but if a DSSD works, 312 should as well
|
What about a 104? Is it tough to change the stripe?
I been very new to Pam. Apologised for asking stupid questions. |

Well, I'll go with the TRF standard response of 'get both'. Then you'll have two quite different yet lovely watches. Perhaps start with the 312 for easy strap changes and auto convenience. Something to be aware of is that the 111 does not hack, which can be off-putting for some.
To compare the 312 with your DSSD, you may find these pics (thanks to Saif/CorruptedSanity) useful... |
The 312 has my vote.

312

I'd say 312. In house movement, non-cyclops date, 1950s case, quick strap change. It's an awesome watch.

312:thumbsup:

The 312 :dude:

I have DSSD and a PAM 416.. I like my PAM with manual wind but it is personal choice  Have you considered a PAM 233?
|
312 was what I was looking at for my first Panerai, but I just bought a 177 (titanium version of 111) over the weekend. It's being shipped now. I liked the non 1950s case better and decided I could live without the date.
Not that I am going to sit around staring at the back of my case, but the 111's back is frickin beautiful. It is going to be a pleasure to wind every couple days and I look forward to the ritual. |
Love the 1950 case. Initially considered 111 but got great deal on 321. Never look back and happy decided to go with 321. Especially with brushed case. Similar reason when I flipped my GMT IIC for Sub-C. Try them both on so you can tell which one smiles back to you. I found thicker case of 1950 is not an issue for me with smaller wrist. The lug width and strap make difference compared to DSSD in term how they sit on my wrist.

Pam 312
I vote for the 312. I love the 1950's case. I have a 321. Same movement and case. I love it!

Tough choice. Both very eligible watches. I'd personally pick the ETA based 111.

|
312 IMO too:thumbsup:
|
One vote for the 111 here, love the clean dial en lum case. Super reliable!
Cheers! |
vote 111, biased, but for me, you can't go wrong with both.
