425 or 449???? You Make The Call!!!

Which one and why?????

Watchcraze007 30 September 2012 05:36 AM

Well... Panerai and that thing called Special Editions! Go with what u like, and can afford. Many have bought SEs just for speculation and are stuck with watches they don't like and alas.. money becomes better in the bank, than vice versa (I'm sure u agree that well invested money is much better than paper sitting in a bank).
Go with what u like. They're both very very very beautiful!!!

Not for investment purposes...........strictly preference. These two watches are virtually the same price. The 425 has the SLC (pig) dial, gold hands, sapphire crystal...........449 has the blue hands, plexi crystal. Both are in house movements. 449 is limited to 500 but, as I said earlier, not interested in that aspect for this discussion.

Based on that (looks primarily), what would you go for????

Watchcraze007 30 September 2012 06:36 AM

Still, for looks ONLY, i would go 425. For looks AND historical references (which I highly value) the Blue hands (historical reference (Ref 3646) is worth going for ;)

Cru Jones 30 September 2012 07:24 AM

Can't go wrong with either.

I prefer the 449 for the non-pig + blue hands, but, not 100% sold on plexi.

esm 30 September 2012 07:27 AM

If you can get the SE version, get that one.

Why??????

HDHNTER 30 September 2012 07:52 AM

Both are sweet but I prefer the 449 for the cleaner dial, blue hands & plexi.

Because SE will always be more sought after, and in most cases, closer the it's root/DNA

nauticajoe 30 September 2012 08:25 AM

449 gets my vote.

dukerules 30 September 2012 12:12 PM

I just can't do that pig.

Travelller 30 September 2012 12:13 PM

449 - yes, because it's an SE.

Both are fantastic and two of only a handful of Radiomirs I'd even think of owning (after the 021 & 190 ).

alexlt730512 30 September 2012 12:30 PM

449 for sure

red1108nyc 30 September 2012 12:50 PM

Did you get the call for 449 already? wow... 449 gets my vote.. the blue hand is pretty cool!

DiverAsia 30 September 2012 01:16 PM

I would have to go with the 449 as well.
I love the blue. Gives the watch a nice 'pop'.

Fearsome Puppy 30 September 2012 10:32 PM

449, prefer the dial without the pig and love the blue hands. Also, I'm one of those who actually like plexi...

cedric 30 September 2012 10:44 PM

Definitely due to the pig, 449 get my vote. The blue hands is also a nice change, but the gold is equally nice, if you are ok with the pig. And if you can get either at same price, definitely go with 449, as it will be rare (already seeing 425 in grey market)

From esm "Because SE will always be more sought after, and in most cases, closer the it's root/DNA"

Again, the point of the thread is not which one will be worth more or is more collectable due to a limited run..........the question is, which one is looks better????

looks are subjective... seeing something that is true to its heritage can be appealing to many and not necessarily in line with the initial cosmetic impulse'... it becomes a educated beauty

LE also can be appealing because you may have the privilege of wearing something that is not going to be seen as frequently.

there both nice... i am leaning toward the 449

Ahmed, yes with only 750 pieces available (250 less than 382) the waiting list is long filled up!

Oh 449 gets my vote as well.

Survivor 1 October 2012 03:07 AM

It is interesting that many who have responded do not care for the "pig" dial. Its kind of strange to me that possibly the symbol most closely tied to Panerai, the SLC or "pig", is somehow viewed as not desirable.

Well, as they say, to each his own. I love pig dials on Pams (have a 416 as well).........I also much prefer the gold hands to the blue hands...oh yeah.........that's why I bought the 425!!!!! Regardless, they are both beauties and there's no way you can go wrong with either.

The SLC submarine on the dial is not obvious. Not too long ago there was a craze over the PAM 292 with SLC submarine on the dial over the normal dial 292. The pig dial 292 still command a premium over the normal dial 292.

449 (and 448) appeal to more die hard fans as they are closer to vintage origins (heat treated blue hands + Plexi glass), plus it is a Special Edition at about similar retail price.

Pete17 1 October 2012 11:57 AM

I'm leaning towards the 449. The plexi suits these retro models to a tee.

What's the depth rating on both watches? I'm guessing the sapphire 425 is better rated?
